I agree, and think Wenger would as well, although he did consider top four as a trophy.
It’s bad enough not being in Europe but watching Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man U and spurs players in the CL, while our players are sitting at home playing video games, is worse.
Oh that’s strange. As I remember being in it when United, Liverpool and Chelsea were all winning it.
Didn’t make me feel that great tbh.
Never celebrated a top 4 finish in my life. Some of my best and worse days come in the FA cup.
I think time and a place for everything, often I would rather an FA cup triumph over a top 4 finish.
This particular season however I believe a top 4 finish is more important, we’ve had 5 seasons without CL football and qualifying for the CL would give the fans more hope this project is heading in the right direction as opposed to a domestic cup imo.
Definitely pro-active to do something like this. If Mikel get’s us back into the CL he’d be punching way above his weight and would likely get us pummeled repeatedly.
This is all fantasy talk to be honest. Let’s just pull the reigns a bit and try not to get embarrassed by Liverpool.
No question finishing 2nd is a much more meaningful measuring stick as to where you are as a club than an FA Cup… it also is more important financially and for the brand… being in the CL is still such a key lever to relevance, brand, and money.
Love the FA Cup and it holds a special place in my heart, but you simply can’t judge the squad or the manager very well on a single cup like that where you get random draws and perhaps play 2 good teams along the way.
Fans want trophies though, even if just to increase the count against the f*ing stupid Spurs.
So if you’re not making it to the quarter finals or beyond of a 32 team competition you shouldn’t be in it?
Come on man that’s always been a silly idea. People just don’t want to get embarrassed by the likes of Barca and Bayern again, that’s different to not having any business being in the tournament.
