Here we go again.
One of those useless stats.
If the PL didn’t have Chelsea City and Liverpool in it. Maybe Mikel’s Arsenal wouldn’t be so pathetic
If my aunt had a dick, she would be my uncle
I like the word “if”
Amazon getting the reaction they hoped for not just on Twitter but on here also.
I got canceled for saying that. Please cancel Ronnie everyone thanks.
Some data to put current season in perspective. We are in 5th place, which is not bad. We have 20 points, which is meh. It puts us on pace for 69-70 points, which isn’t terrible if we forget the standards we had over a decade ago. In actuality, it puts you on average between 4th and 5th (last 10 years), and solidly 4th (last 5 years).
Deeper dive into xG and xGa (all from Understat).
Our overall performance in the 11 EPL games:
xG - 15.19
xGa - 17.84
That’s not great, in fact it it’s mediocre. Having said that, we have performed better in the last 6 on that front:
xG - 9.63
xGa - 6.48
Taking into consideration opponents, our schedule has been relatively soft, with our opponents averaging a small negative xG - xGa (Chelsea and City are really the only two with very high deltas (unsurprisingly).
On average in the 11 games, we are playing against teams with an net xG of -0.1.
If you look at the last 6 games only, where we seemed to perform better, we play against teams with an average net of -0.38.
Essentially, we are underperforming in total, doing better in the last 6, but the performance of the last 6 needs to be couched in the fact that they were all bad teams, with the exception of Crystal Palace, who actually has a positive net xG.
Looking at it from a game by game “what would you have expected based on how these teams are doing this year in that regard,” you basically take City and Chelsea and say “loss”.
Then you take the extraordinarily bad teams with very high negative nets and you have Norwich, Burnley, Aston Villa, Spurs, and Watford and say we must get 3 points.
So from those 7 games you get 15 points “expected”. The remaining 4 are Brentford, with a very decent xG net, so let’s say we take nothing from that given it is away game (being nice here to Arteta)… I’ll give us Leicester away as a counter-balance and given they have -0.23 net average. Then we have Crystal Palace (xG net 0.35 avg) and Brighton. Arsenal at home, let’s do 1 point… same with Brighton away (who have small net negative).
That puts us at 20 points… you change any of Brentford, CP, or Brighton and we should be above that…
Very generously we are not doing badly at 20 points given the opposition… if you want to assume (rightly) we should be doing better against some of those little guys, then we are underperforming.
Combine that with the quality of the football (some bright spots granted), and I’d say marginal underperformance in terms of points.
Cant wait to shit on the anti Arteta posters in here when we get top4. Im gonna load up the Super Soaker with pure rat feces.
It is good to see us getting points and pick up form in the last few games.
We will have a more accurate evaluation when we start playing stronger/in-form teams later on, and see actually where we stand.
I think top 4 is gonna be another one of those 69-71 point totals, so it is very doable and not all that incredibly impressive. The league has changed though and gotten more competitive, so I’d say over 70 right now is a decent achievement for anyone bar Chelsea, Pool, and City.
Im gonna spray you with shit when we get top4 tbf.
I was suspicious after a couple of the other thread but fairly certain you’re on some drugs right now after reading this one.
Yea you are right, but my posts are still of the highest quality tbh.
Good in depth analysis about the season so far.
The period from Nov 22 to NYD is going to have such a massive say on our season, 10 league games in 40 odd days, they come thick and fast.
The funniest shit would be if Arteta gets hisbwish of having Wenger back and the first thing Arsene does is get rid of Arteta.
Nah Wenger’s not like that at all, Arteta would be his boy, wouldn’t matter if the results were good or bad. As long as Wenger was at the top of the power pyramid with the likes of Arteta sycophantly below him he would never shake that tree.
What would Wenger do sack Arteta and bring in someone like Conte who would call him out and the rest of the higher ups out at the first sign of trouble. No fucking way.
Arteta is just being nice anyway to a past mentor, Arteta is his own man and whether people like it or not he has fierce conviction. The last thing Mikel wants to do is be under Wenger’s rule or act like Ole who probably still powders Fergie’s balls in the dressing room after a game.
@SRCJJ
I’m really happy with the trajectory of the team and love the positive vibes around the club.
I’m not one to brag about things especially with alot of the season left, but what I was hoping for was that the very rough tide of our season start would smooth out because there’s huge potential with this team.
It was about finding a system that clicked and also for Arteta, having players he could trust that are technically secure and confident in carrying the ball forward. There are many examples to pick from back to front - Ramsdale, Gabi/White, Partey, Saka/ESR etc.
All with the type of player profile, to build the kind of team Arteta wants.
Bunch of likeable players too. We’re accruing the right personalities and right talents.
Patience is the hardest thing to find in football these days, but I honestly think it will pay off in the long run with this team.
Bloody hell, you’re back!
Thought it would be rude not to reply to a call out
I’ve been light touch on football involvement this season, saving energy for other things - but still watching our games, and lurking about…
You’ve been on Arsenal Mania, ain’t ya
Good to have you back, anyhow
You fought a good fight on the Arteta front from the beginning. The rest of the Arteta defense force did our best in your absence. Though it’s starting to look like we’re on the right side of history. Until Anfield in a fortnights time at least.
