Super Mik Arteta

We don’t mind it because that’s what is given to us.

Will you mind Ramsdale + Nico Williams over Raya + Cala?

We signed Raya a year before the concrete WIlliams links and the summer we tried to sign Williams he prioritised the Barcelona move and signed a new deal to stay at Bilbao.

So you’re little hypothetical squad build wasn’t even remotely possible.

We signed Raya ON A FUCKING LOAN

Our finances were that fucked.

When your finances are that fucked, don’t buy for a position which is already adequately filled.

Not really. We could still get Williams :poldi:

Again, I don’t really see why we shouldn’t.

All these stories how tight our budget is atm irritate me.

We’re one of the biggest/richest clubs in the world, in the biggest league, with pretty strong owners. This is no 2008. No way we aren’t able to fucking raise 50M for one player now, while we could also get back in the title race (a massive factor too).

So are Newcastle

You’re making it sound way worse than it was lol

We got Rice, Havertz and Timber that summer, no?

We didn’t get Raya alone on a loan lol :arteta:

It was a loan only for the purposes of the books.

And who has even said that the finances are fucked? If you could follow the conversation you’d see it was about £670m not being a huge sum of money for the task at hand and not something that needs to constantly be used as a criticism of Arteta.

Regardless of the amount spent, how do you end up with our forward 6 after 5 years?

Other than Saka, none of them should be starting. None.

If Arteta realises that his forwards are now the area to focus on for the next 3 summers, then I’ll back him. But they are all his guys now, if they’re not good enough - why did he bring them here? You can’t just spaff your owner’s money up the wall and ask for more cause you signed the wrong people.

(Though I still think we need a #8 and #10, Merino is not good enough to start and Odegaard needs competition).

With that said, the board have to recognise that Arteta has misspent a lot of the money he’s been given and still needs more to recuperate all the failures:

  • Vieira
  • Jesus
  • Merino
  • Havertz

That’s a LOT of money for players who can’t change a game when the system isn’t working.

If you were not on periods and being emotional after every post, you would see me agreeing to 670m being the amount needed for being competitive.

The criticism is that when you are dealing with financial contraints, our priorities towards squad building should have been better.

No need to buy a GK & a LB when we already have a GK & LBs with adequate quality. Buy for positions which would make us more complete.

We have been thin in attacking positions for ages now.

Since PSR takes 3 years into account, we knew that the amount we paid for Rice, Havertz & Timber will impede us from spending for next few windows. Signing Raya for 28m was irresponsible.

If I knew the books like Arteta & Edu do, I would have traded Raya & Calafiori transfer for a left winger.

I believe no one would think Martinelli and Jesus would drop their form so much after 22-23 season.
Nobody would.
If they could remain their form, which Arteta was giving them time to regroup, it should not be this bad be honest.
We just had two starting forwards dropping their form drastically.

That’s true, but I think the mistake here was giving them 18 months to try and course correct when they’ve both had just 1 good season here.

I thought Arteta was meant to be ruthless.

Damn guys I thought something happened.

It’s just the OA classic going on. Arguing.

I have read somewhere he’s had interest from England and abroad but he’s made it clear he’s only interested in going back to Celtic

They are still young, especially Martinelli.
It is really difficult to say he is “done” after one bad season.
You need to give them time to prove themselves again.

I’d agree if we were just a Spurs level club that is happy with top 4 every season. But if you want to compete at the absolute highest level, I think you should get a year, 18-months tops to return to greatness as a player.

If there’s little to no sign of improvement, they should be moved on.

One of our biggest failings as a club in the last 30 years is keeping players who are well past their sell-by date. And selling the good ones because we can’t afford to give them wages in line with what other top clubs are paying.

Though admittedly the stadium payback likely is a large reason for why we had to do the above in the past.

Aren’t we looking for upgrades on LW/ST positions?

Yups, I believe we are now. But who we get is what ultimately matters here.

Does Arsenal have it in them to get a baller here, or a hot prospect that could deliver the good for us from the get? It remains to be seen.

I will say, wait till summer if we don’t do anything in January.
Maybe we are saving the ammo for big transfer later on.

If we are not getting significant upgrade in both windows, I will be super disappointed.

Does sound more like wenger era Arsenal every day on here

But on this occasion I do agree, I believe last summer they tried their main targets and couldn’t land them so didn’t waste on other junk.

In Jan we should go for kvara now he’s on the market but if we don’t, then I expect something huge in the summer and will lose patience with the club if that doesn’t happen. I’m talking Musiala, Wirtz or Vinicius :eyes:
