Rodrygo

Profile wise I think Williams and Barcola are moreso pure wingers and direct upgrades to Martinelli.

Rodrygo is more of a playmaker for me, not sure how that’d work with MLS also inverting. Think an overlapping fullback would work better in that case.

I would be happy with any of them 3 though. They would all improve the squad quality/depth quite a bit.

Problem with Barcola, and I may be watching a different player to you guys, but he looks more of a playmaker/facilitator - sort of ESR-esq and I don’t think that jives with what Arteta wants in this team.

We have that with Trossard currently.

I think a Rodrygo, Williams and Gittens (pls Fofana) - 1 v 1 speedy wingers is more of what Arteta envisages at LW.

Let’s see what happens with Rodrygo. I think this is a player we’ve probably admired from afar and don’t have the in-depth file like we had/have with either Zubimendi and Sesko. This is a market opportunity that has sprung up recently and there must have been some form of talks going off of the Orny/HOA tidbits that have been put out there.

We need an alternative to Martinelli and either of those names mentioned are good options to go for either way.

I think it’s the other way around, Rodrygo is what you’re describing Barcola as, and Barcola is more of a pure winger in the mould of Williams and Gittens.

You may be confusing him to Doue though. He’s also like Rodrygo. No surprise that both of them idolised Neymar, they do operate in the same spaces as he used to.

No Camavinga in the proposed Alonso line ups tell me the source is typing bollocks.

I think Rodrygo would essentially be the LW version of Saka. However, I 100% agree with you about the overlapping fullback point, and wonder if we do sign a defender, if this is where we will focus our attention. Unfortunately, Liverpool are getting Kerkez who I would have suggested as the optimum player for this role, but given the emergence of MLS, we maybe need to look at an alternative.

Hopefully true about him being available this month

I would say Rodrygo is even more of a playmaker than Saka.

I think the closest thing to a LW version of Saka is Nico because they have the capacity to pull off different roles out wide.

For what is worth, he may not be my preference on the forward we get but I would prioritise this signing over the strikers we’ve been linked.
Get him(or Williams) and then sort out the striker with whatever is left of budget.

imo our central striker situation arguably isn’t as impt as our left wide guy situation assuming Jesus and Havertz are back to business after summer. Not by a wide (..) margin but if I had to pick. Obv would be nice with one of each but with Zubi in that might not happen.

Rodrygo’s versatility comes in handy as well. In a way, he’d practically be the Jesus/Trossard replacement.

I think it should be the bare minimum we should expect after abdicating an entire two previous transfer windows.

It’s a now or never situation. Pay over the odds if you have to because it’s still cheaper in the long term than not trying at all.

Just move him to the players section already.

Fuck all this talk about settling for “either or” when it comes to a top class left winger and a centre forward, the idea of being willing to tolerate Watkins or some other secondary option if it means Rodrygo coming in. After two totally dead windows we need both and shouldn’t settle for less. We need both if we’re gonna finally win something big.

Meh, if Rodrygo is dumb enough not to see the writing on the wall then he may as well stay there.

Clearly he’s not happy with his situation and you’d think he’ll want proper assurances from Alonso about things changing.
His situation could very well get worse.
It’s World Cup season, while I doubt uncle Carlo will leave him out of the squad, his decision this summer will certainly affect his overall standing for Brazil come the World Cup.
Competition is fierce in attacking positions,

As if Alonso has a say in that club lol. If Perez wants to part ways he will pistol whip your skull and do it when you are unconcious.

Florentino probably loves the guy, he kept him around for three years when he couldn’t hit water from the bottom of the sea, to get rid of him now that he’s actually finding the net is probably not his first thought.

Completely agree. Alonso obviously wants to keep all the good players, why wouldn’t you :man_shrugging: BUT if we come knocking with a good offer, Real will surely listen and the player should be looking to move

I don’t see this transfer happening to be honest.
