Reiss Nelson (Loan: Fulham)

Those detached fans really suck don’t they. Better to be a smug asshole instead.

I think from this generation of players only Saka has truly made it to the top, reiterating my point that today you will rarely see any true world class talent.
For instance look at Arsenal in the 80s Adams Merson and Rocky to name a few

Listen, I think they suck but the logic is simple.

If you get rid of them they have to be replaced. We look at how the season unfolded we renewed Eddie. We got Trossard, Kiwior and Jorginho in January. The circumstances which made them available then probably wasn’t the case in the Summer. That summer we tried our luck with Fabio Vieira and that’s turning out to be a worse transfer than either of those renewals.

Nelson, by that point we had Saka, Martinelli, Trossard. Nelson was low on the pecking order, again not 100% on renewing him, but why exhaust effort finding a replacement for a fringe position? Martinelli and Saka had good seasons in 2023/24, everyone was high on them. Replacing them wasn’t happening.

Back to Eddie, getting rid of him meant finding someone better than Jesus in all reality, that player wasn’t there. (Probably still isn’t). Those links to Toney and the costs associated with them wasn’t exactly cause of enthusiasm.

But this is all pointless, because if we sell them, it worked out.

They wasn’t even the worse renewals, anyway. We renewed Elneny in 2022 as our main CM reinforcement despite his utter disaster of a game in the top 4 race vs Newcastle the season before.

I get that. I’m more sympathetic to the Eddie renewal than the Reiss one. I can understand not wanting to change both your starting and backup striker in a single window because iirc we signed Jesus and gave Eddie a new deal the same summer. There were links to Toney, links to DCL, and although we don’t know the true numbers, we didn’t pay a transfer fee to retain Eddie.

The Nelson one is just stupid imo. We had four players who could really play those positions and another player who could in theory play there but probably won’t even make it here. If we’re talking sub 1000 minutes, I don’t really care who is eating garbage time minutes.

But again, I’d be over the moon if we bank 40m for him and Eddie.

Apparently they asked about Reiss but he was too expensive.

Leicester aren’t ‘Premier League-ready’ - so what do they need to do…

Get relegated.

It feels like the era of us being mugged-off is finally over.

It started when we gave Liam Brady away for £500k in 1980 when Trevor Francis and Clive Allen were valued at over twice that amount.

I’ll wait to pop the champagne until after we sell Nelson and Eddie. The ESR deal is a huge coup for the club imo. To be able to move a guy who hasn’t contributed very much over the last 18 months for a good amount is a real feather in Edu’s cap.

What the fuck. How did this slip by without anyone questioning it :joy:

How the fuck was I supposed to know that Trossard would get his pace back once he touched England again?

This is another good reference point for our valuations. Hlozek is more of a versatile attacker who can play on the wing or as a second striker. Has struggled for playing time at Leverkusen but produced more than Nelson as a first teamer in his career and is a couple years younger no doubt on smaller wages.

So if Leicester can get Hlozek on a loan with a 20m euro obligation that involves add ons and only triggers if Leicester stay up, we can’t be demanding 20m pounds for Reiss Nelson.

If I said that, I’d be banned from the forum

Look at the fee that Liverpool are getting for Carvalho. 20m is the bottom end of what we should be pricing Nelson at.

£15m with lots of add-ons would do for me. I think he’ll have a reasonable EPL career so some back-loaded bonuses could add up to an additional £20m if he’s sold on to a bigger club in a couple of years.

Mentioned in The Athletic that he’s most likely staying despite seeking to move earlier in the window.

The departures of Eddie, Emile and Fabio certainly influenced it. He should get more minutes this season. He was one of the most impressive players in preseason so I don’t mind this.
He seems to have gotten over some of his injury issues which is good.

What did he do in pre-season again? I don’t remember seeing him do much

@Midfield_Maestro breathe, it’s gonna be fine.

Eddie had no interest in playing.
Vieira did not have mintues.

Nelson, showed his eagerness and hunger to play.
Not saying he played good, but he got a good attitude towards the new season.

If Forrest wanted him to agree to take a 50% paycut in the event of relegation I don’t blame him for walking away from that one bit. That’s crazy.

I think his heart had already left before that, just not sure which club he would join.
