Not a Wrexham fan by any stretch but as a very proud Welsh man, this shit gives me goosebumps….

How exactly has Palmer got himself in here then?
I guess showing up in the 3rd tier European final and the postseason friendly tournament does wonders to your image.

What the fuck. Not one of ours, I hope.

Understandable why he put Terry at one because they played against each other so much and Rooney said it took him years to adjust to Terry and work him out.

At least VVD isn’t on there. PTSD with how he’s getting rated.

Prime Terry is absolutely one of the best CBs (I really mean among a few top guys) I have ever seen. Absurdly underrated these days.

Clear ahead of Rio in my book, just for example.

I liked Pique too btw, but shouldn’t be so high. Still the best ball playing CB I’ve seen. One of a kind.

I think Rio was fantastic as well though. He was ahead of his time as far as English CBs went with his ability on the ball.

Truly a golden generation of English defenders to have them two, Campbell and Ashley Cole in the same squads. Ledley King as well and then had very capable versatile defenders like Carragher and Neville.

The midfield always hurt England because it never had balance and couldn’t control games and you look at the top nations at the time they all had balanced midfields and England just couldn’t compete.

I felt we lacked the coach to put the pieces together. Goran-Eriksson was done by then and Capello was thrown under the bus, by players and media alike.

Yeah, that back line was insane.

It always hurts your eyes to see the midfield lol. Guys like Scholes or Gerrard pushed to the flank, a Lampard-Gerrad midfield… No manager probably had the balls to make some drastic cuts and play a balanced team. They were always to impressed with the names of those players.

I’d probably give Terry the edge, but I’d say it’s really close. I definitely don’t think there’s a gulf between them.

I saw the players on a podcast complaining about Capello wanting the players to diet properly and dress smart lol. Apparently they were angry because he cut out food he didn’t think they should be eating.

Got angry and threw him under the bus because he didn’t want them to have distractions at a World Cup lol

Brother, that World Cup. They were at it. The whinging about the training camp. The terrible games against USA and Algeria. Rooney losing his composure at the boos.

Then we lost 4-1 against Germany, which the game itself really wasn’t representative of that score line at all. We were quite alright in that game.

English player power at its worst. Thought they were such big shots that they didn’t have to get on board with the ways of working of a proven, serial winner. Despite him basocally representing that general 00s generation’s last chance of international success.

Partly why I loved the Southgate era. Generally good bunch of lads all doing what the manager requires of them and not letting their egos get in the way of things. Also, these days there are no detectable club rivalries within the national team, they seem like a cohesive unit with a sense of team spirit, and I really like that instead of the way it used to be with the very obvious club factions that existed around Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool players.

Yep, just skip the Hodgson era. We don’t talk about getting knocked out by Iceland. Never happened. Euro 2016? What’s that?

Yeah, I actually have enjoyed watching the English team “success” (relative to recent generations) over the last 8 or so years under Southgate. Feel like we’ve just got a team of players who really love playing for England and want to succeed.

So far removed from the bullshit of the 00s with bickering and squad of cunts.

Was the day after Brexit vote and I was off to France for a holiday with pals. During that holiday we watched that match versus Iceland in a bar in this little rural town.

So we got thoroughly mugged off for an extended period by a bunch of French locals for both Brexit and how shit we are at football. Absolutely infuriating experience and after a load of smiling politely and laughing along with them we retired back to the villa because we couldn’t hide our annoyance much longer. Also had a French copper call me “rosbif” during that holiday :joy:

I didn’t really get the Anglo-French rivalry thing until then. Can’t stand the bastards now.

Tickled me more than it should, just because it’s a complete bugbear of mine.

No one likes the French lol even down here it is widely accepted that the French suck.
