That’s quite outrageous, they can enter a competition they would overwhelmingly outclass and get easy street to Europe while their English competitors duke it out in one of the toughest football pyramids out there.

They should just play in the Welsh league since they are Welsh imo

I don’t care if it’s not a real game, this should never have been made

Saw a post on instagram about goalkeepers and wondered who people thought produced the greatest goalkeepers ever?

Hard for me to look past Germany or Italy. Think England did a stellar job for years but honestly since David Seaman they’ve not produced a top goalkeeper.

Spain definitely for the recent history. 21st century they’ve got Casillas, Valdes, Lopez, Canizares, De Gea, Reina that all stand out as top stoppers.

Italy haven’t produced a great keeper since Buffon they’ve just got a lot of decent keepers now. Guess in the 80s and 90s you had Zoff, Zena, Rossi, Peruzzi, Pagliuca, Toldo, Buffon and Marchegiani so that particular period stands out.

Joe Hart was decent for a good few years

Yeah good shout. I thought he was a top shot stopper but it’s a shame he basically got binned by Pep and felt like he never recovered after that was very mistake prone unfortunately.

But his best days at City he was a top top keeper.

@Josh hard to argue against them they’ve been producing top keepers for years. Even Zubizaretta and Paco in the 90s too

Maybe Brazil deserves a shout too, at least for this century, although keepers don’t come at mind at first when you think about them.

Dida, Julio Cesar, Allison, Ederson, all top goallies.

Yeah, historically Italy and Germany come to mind first.

Ireland had a better GK (Shay Given) for a good chunk of the 2000’s than any English GK.

Which is no slight on Given or Ireland, but England wasn’t producing the best. David James, Paul Robinson. Ehhhh they were alright.

I quite like Paul Robinson but like a lot of English keepers in that generation the press was so heavy and intense with them they suffered under the weight of expectation.

Rob Green, David James, Paul Robinson all had a mistake in them and always tended to be on the bigger stage too.

Obviously its not the same level but when he was at Celtic he was really good. Obviously not at his peak but probably the best he’s been since pre Pep city.

If you have seen any podcast with Hart he says Postegocglu revived his career when he went there. As he made him feel wanted. He even said himself after City his 3 years at Celtic is hIs favourite period in football and Ange is the best manager he’s played under :joy:

I’m happy he got a later career revival I honestly thought he was a really good keeper and it’ll always be a shame that his career at the top ended how it did.

Always feels like the Pep not wanting him thing was so overblown and it made him undesirable for whatever reason

I remember wanting Paul Robinson at Arsenal as Seaman’s successor back in the day lol
Wasn’t really great later on.

Out of those I’d say David James was comfortably the best. Was in brilliant shape at Portsmouth for a few years, in his mid/late 30s. Thought he was the best english goallie by a mile at the time but was pretty much ignored in the NT and Robinson was still prefered to him. Got his spot eventually, but not soon enough as I recall.

I always rated Joe Hart, a great shot stopper, a great athlete. Was pretty good allround, obviously not a ball playing keeper, but shouldn’t be too judged by that. Thought he was surely one of the top keepers in the league for a few years.

Nice, i get another chance to run my agenda against Joe Hart and mention how he was never anything other than ok.

Poland should get some credit for their goalkeepers in last decade.
