How can you not love this group
I liked Donarumma in this lol
Woke up pissed.
I curse the fucks who introduced me to PL football.
Woke up feeling settled, then the dagger hit the heart. Ah man. I don’t know but loss feels as painful as the ‘Carling cup’ final against Birmingham.
Simeone’s Atletico for me.
This is just such a lazy and crappy characterisation of the way we play. Arteta is control and possession obsessed with a huge emphasis on positional play. It is extremely structured and not pretty on the eye but it is not Jose like. Not in the slightest.
Are we talking about peak Atleti? If so, I can hear it.
I do find it funny when people initially used that comparison with a negative undertone and when it was brought to Arteta during a presser a year or so ago and he simply thanked people for comparing him to one of the most successful managers ever.
I don’t think Arteta and Mourinho’s styles are like for like but there’s definitely some influence, as there is with Pep and other successful managers.
That’s the thing with Arteta is that he’s simply open to everything and doesn’t look down on any approach that yields results. You’d have a hard time finding a more tactically flexible team out there.
Speaking of Mourinho, he made that admission about Arteta’s Arsenal all the way back in 2020:
Yep. Nowhere near Mourinho.
Mourinho realied heavily on transition, counter attacks, being effective with being as little as possible on the ball, and he was brilliant at it.
Always had a direct midfield that progressed the ball rapidly and effectively but never cared about winning the possession battle. On the contrary, he enjoyed to leave the possession “dominance” to the opponent.
We couldn’t be more far from that. Even many Wenger teams were much closer to Mourinho than Arteta’s Arsenal. We may not be too creative up front, but we always want the possession and we’re kinda average on counter attacks and transition (at least compared to all prime Mourinho teams).
Yeah but no comparison would make complete justice.
Arteta is conservative but also demands high defensive line, which is a bit unique for me.
If anything we are like 2010 Del Bosque’s Spain, but on a (far) lower technical level and more physicality.
This seems like complete normal footballing to me.
