Honestly it’s an injustice to any of the academy boys who could play there because guaranteed they would do a better job.
I think there’s more than what he’s currently showing though.
Most recently in the FA Cup, he was our best player when he came off the bench and changed the game, nearly helped us turn the game around.
This is definitely his worst period though. You’d think he’s gonna start next week, I hope he takes that opportunity because it might be his last start of the season.

He has to be one of the worst signings in a long long time tbh. When Martinelli and Trossard were struggling there were a lot of questions around how he isn’t being used even a little bit and I think we’ve since seen why. Which makes the lack of even one attacking signing in January even more baffling as he genuinely doesn’t look physically fit or sharp enough to even play at this level any more. Can’t believe I’m saying this about such a top quality player from 5 years ago but it’s obviously been a steep decline. One of many who’ve just fallen off a cliff in a short space of time.

This is a bit of a nonsense statement when he came on to give an academy lad a rest tonight.
I mean any other academy player that hasn’t already played for the first team.
Tell me what exactly does Sterling offer that an 16-17 year old fresh out of the academy couldn’t?

It is a bit hindsight, but now we have a better picture of how Arteta handling Nwaneri, MLS and Sterling, and he did a good job on their playing minutes.
I taught him everything he still knows.
No heading, no control, out-muscled, playing it off the field for a throw-in, slow reactions, standing 10 metres offside, not tracking back, you name it. It’s like watching myself get a chance to play for Arsenal.

It’s a shame it hasn’t worked out you figure he had enough in the tank to at least chip in with a few goals but when you watch him play its understandable why Mikel has been hesitant to give him minutes.

He never had that Havertz up-tick. That penalty against Palace showed the team loved him and his form really picked up thereafter. Sterling has had enough opportunity to show there’s something there but it’s just been a bewildering decline for him. I bet Arteta is shocked too.
That’s what happens when you don’t do your homework and make a panic signing. Perhaps we will be glad we didn’t just sign any old striker in January in the long term.

I didn’t have high expectations, all I really expected was that he’d be a better option for us than Nelson was, but I’m not really sure he’s even managed to pass that very low bar lol
