What’s the reason/rationale over the 3PM UK rule?
Most of the games of football in this country are played at 3pm on a Saturday. It’s believed that if you broadcast the top division games that this will deter people from going to see lower division games.

Gotcha.
Reminds me of the old NFL blackout rule—if the home game wasn’t sold out, it wouldn’t be broadcast in the local market. Rule was scrapped and attendance and ratings went up.
Seems a well intentioned rule that has outlived its usefulness.

I think it worked better when attending football was more affordable. These days a lot of clubs will charge the guts of twenty quid to get in even at the non league level.
