Pets

Very true. I’d love another dog, but I don’t want the hurt of losing again. Not only that, but what if I were to pop my clogs before him. Hardly fair on him.

Losing a gf… losing a job…
To look back, those were just peanuts, maybe smaller than peanuts.

I am 50 years old, and I can tell you all that, losing my two dogs (God bless my parents are still in healthy conditions) were my most painful, tortured experience in my life.

One passed away in almost 3 years, and the other one and a half year.
I am living in grief everyday since.

Today is the day my first ever dog passed away for three years.

Her name is Jody, a Shih Tzu mix; she was full 17 years old when left.

For lots of people, a pet is a pet, an animal.
For me, she is my daughter, my family (still).

Just post her pics here, in memory of her.

Sorry to hear mate, losing a loved pet is such a sickening feeling. RIP Jody :pray:t4:

Anyone that thinks a pet is a pet clearly doesn’t understand the impact any animal can have on a person’s life, the strong bonds and relationships you form with any pet in most cases are unbreakable.

It’s tough losing something you love so unconditionally and having to make the decision to do the “right thing” when that time comes is even tougher.

I’d love another dog and envy people who do have them a lot, but my work commitments and being single make it really difficult at the moment.

Thanks…

The two euthanasia shots (one put to deep sleep, one to end the life) were not on her only, they were on me also.

My life was never the same since.

Exactly.
I always believe, dog is one of the greatest gifts from God to human.
We are totally different species, different language, we use different senses to communicate and feel the world; BUT, we can be so connected and attached.
A lot of times I felt like Jody understood me more than my wife.

Oh my goodness what a sweet little noodle!

She looks absolutely lovely, and 17 years is a fantastic innings - I know you’re rightfully grieving and sad right now but that’s a very good age and you were very lucky to have that much love and happiness in your life for so long. I’m sorry for your loss, but you will always have those memories and feelings of love.

I could never own one of those big species of dog that has 8-10 year average life spans, would hurt way too much.

Here’s Poppy. She likes to sleep between my legs on the sofa when I’m watching Arsenal games. She’s 7 and I’d be overjoyed to have her for another 10.

Poppy is just lovelyl and adorable.
7 years, 17 years, there is no difference.
If the love and care is genuine, the time together is never enough, and the pain of loss will not be less because you spent (relatively) less time with them.

That one of Poppy peeking out from under the duvet is unbearably cute lol

Haha thanks

Yeah she sleeps down by out feet and when I get up in the morning to make us coffee, she always sneaks up and steals my spot and often looks like this. The cheek of it, and she wakes me up for breakfast at 6:30am fml

One of the few things I miss when I’m on holiday is this guy, back home and back to morning walk routine.

So this happened today, after a solid year of visiting a few rescues and constantly going between getting a rescue or a puppy and talking myself out of it more times than I’d like mention.

This is Cooper, he’s 11 weeks old and a predominantly fox red lab. I look forward to the next few sleepless nights, especially after I let the vet loose on him tomorrow :joy:

Amazing news! Enjoy every moment. He looks like he is going keep you very busy!

you are really positive…
only a few sleepness night?

Finally, about 4 years after losing my first dog, and 2 1/2 years losing my second, I adopted a 5 year old from the rescue two weeks ago.

I was looking for a Standard Schnauzer or Giant Schnauzer as my service dog, but if it is meant to be then it is meant to be. The adoption site said Jacy was a Standard Schnauzer, but later I found out that she was just a Mini, which I did not plan to, because I had a Mini before and I told myself save that spot for my previous one. One breed one dog.
Then when our family went to the rescue event, we just fell in love with her. She was a 5-year old stray in Mexico, and was so boney due to malnutrition. She was so weak and so scared. So we decided to take her home.

After two weeks, now she gained about 2-3 lbs, and starting to get used to our family. It is really sad to see she is scared during the walk. She would just check the surroundings in every few seconds… when she eats, she would only take a bite and then check around… a very common behavior for strays that never had any sense of love and safety.

Now she is doing a lot better, almost able to finish her meal at once, and feel more comfortable to walk around inside and outside the house… now just need more time to build the trust so that she will not walk behind me but by my side. With or without leash, she is walking a few feet behind me, not next to.

Just meant to be…

thanks, now I have a soul-mate again…
a lot of work ahead… first build the trust and bonding… then teach her commands…
still, seeing her getting healthy again (she has a white spot on her right eye and we will go to the vet next week) makes me/us happpy already.
Even she doesn’t learn anything in the end, she is still a sweet baby for us.
I could not even imagine how tough the life is as a stray… if we cannot heal her trauma, hope she knows there is a family for her to trust and able to trust again.
