Just don’t see us signing two strikers at that point with Havertz and Jesus still on the books
Don’t see the value in the player

30 G/As this season.
Not bad for someone washed.
Would be underwhelming signing him now
Almost fainting on the thought of that being true…
If this club signs Watkins instead of the others, the banners will be coming out for all of them.
What if we sign Rodrygo first, then Watkins.
Watkins plus another is great business. Get rid of Havertz and Jesus
Havertz is a good player I have no idea why people are so desperate to get rid of him lol
He will play 50+ games next season and will be crucial to our team’s success
He is a good player but if you offered me Watkins over him I would accept it. Controversial perhaps
We aren’t in a position to be selling first-teamers, we need to be adding to our stocks.
If bagging Watkins means we can go big on a winger and still have funds for reinforcements to replace any out-going players then I’m in favour of it. If Leipzig are pissing us about and trying to up his price we’re not getting into bad-faith negotiations.
It will kick the search for a young, new striker search into the long-grass but Havertz/Watkins is better than Merino/someone else playing out of position.
Havertz/watkins CF combo needs us to sign a vini level winger for the left.
I don’t quite get the snobbery over Watkins, especially now that there is an admission that the striker market is poor.
He’s not some elite striker nor does he have the capacity to become one. But he’s quite literally one of the best forwards in the PL currently and he’s got the numbers to back it up. He’s got a clean fitness record and his all-around game is very good.
He can play in place or with Havertz.
So much talk about wanting someone proven that can hit the ground running. There is a higher chance Watkins can hit the ground running over the likes of Gyokeres and Sesko.
As a fallback option, I cannot see any better options out there, especially with Villa trying to sort out their books before July.
I understand why people turn their noses up at him because he’s 29 and we pretty much know where his ceiling is. Doesn’t feel like he’s going to move the needle that much but I do agree he’s not the worst fall back option if Gyokeres and Sesko don’t work.
If we don’t pony up the mega money for the above two I’d be happy to sign Watkins and then a quality left winger (Williams, Rodrygo please).
Interesting to see if the club are gonna advance with this if they fail to find an agreement with either Leipzig or Sporting for Sesko and Gyokeres respectively.
Reporting so far does suggest that he is seen as that fallback option.
Are Villa gonna sell him for cheap though? Seems like they managed to avoid trouble in June after selling their women’s team. Apparently Man Utd are also interested.
I think you’ve confused interesting with not very interesting
Indeed, interesting would be if we pivoted to Jackson and then we had to wonder if @SRCJJ was serious about this:
I would give this window a 6.6/7 if we get Watkins, Eze, Zubi, Kepa.
It is a failure if we get Jackson.
Any club desperate for a striker, who are chasing the PL title, shouldn’t be going anywhere near Watkins or Jackson, if they want to be taken seriously.
