Greedy little piggy

I curse Edu for these silly contracts

Very annoying situation. He’s already used to barely playing and will be settled to life in London. Happy to see out his deal.

This is why I am annoyed at the whole situation.
We lacked creativity and control last season so there was definitely room to play him in the squad especially with Merino struggling in midfield.
Underutilised and thereby undervalued in the market

Not entirely convinced that him playing a few more games last season would have made his wages not an issue for a club like Marseille. Seems the contract we gave him is the principle issue. Always seemed a bit high for what he is.

His propensity to lose possession, particularly in the middle when inverting tells me that he couldn’t be trusted in a defensive central role. Arteta did stick in the middle but as an attacking midfielder.
We may have tanked his value by not playing him more, but he could have also tanked his value if he was playing and making mistakes.

He clearly lost the trust of the manager. MLS pushed him down the pecking order and that usually ends one way, a sale.

85% pass completion rate and up to almost 93% for short passes. Zina dispossessed 0.69 times per 90, Declan Rice 1.02. He doesn’t give the ball away anymore than anyone else, people just don’t like him.

He’d be absolutely fine in the LCM role to bring some additional creativity when needed and definitely could’ve been used more to do so last season. Now with Eze he’d have less opportunity.

Not everything can be viewed/compared in stats.

If a fullback doesn’t complete a higher % of passes and get dispossessed less than a midfielder, they’re doing something wrong.

As a FB, way more of his passes are to and from the CBs which are 100%s

Equally, if Rice loses the ball the chances are it’s much higher up the pitch, if Zinchenko loses it we’re likely giving up a chance to the opposition.

You need to compare players in the same position, and even then that wouldn’t give you the full story for the chances he’s given up being beaten 1 on 1 near our own byline/penalty area.

Can’t categorically tell you what he’d be like in midfield, but he’s been crap at FB in recent years.

Does this include inaccurate passes or specifically losing the ball from being tackled?

Pretty sure it’s the latter.

There’s certainly a case to be made for his lack of minutes last season where there was multiple occasions that he surely could have offered us something.

However, the way he is deployed as a LB is that he is the extra midfielder. It bamboozled a lot of teams to begin with which is why those numbers might look way better than they are. Respectfully, comparing him to Rice who is a multifaceted CM isn’t it.

That was my thinking too and I feel like most of the complaints about Zinny have been around him giving the ball away via passes rather than being tackled off it.

The comment was about him losing the ball playing as an inverted LB which means he is in the midfield spaces. There is no major difference in the passes he is making to those rice would make, who also often does short easy passes to the CB or to his midfield partners.

He also fairs favourably vs LB’s anyway.

The latter. The completion stats I gave were for the passes part, he has a shit long pass completion stat but short and medium (what he’d do most in midfield) are good.

The numbers were for only PL last season :slightly_smiling_face: the argument would be that playing more his numbers might worsen.

He’s gonna stay here isn’t he. Fuck sake.

Pretty much this:

wow we have a lot of wasters at our club.

Can’t Arsenal just pay the salary difference for the year?

We’ve become a charity. Carrying players who offer no value whatsoever. Collecting a salary for doing absolutely nothing. It has to stop.

The thing is, in general I find it difficult to criticize someone for not taking an offer where he’s guaranteed to make less money elsewhere, especially when he’s close to entering final contract territory. Having said that however, people might have a bit more sympathy in this case if he hadn’t just been whining in his book about not playing…
