Well Kovacic isnā€™t much different in age and only went for 25m within the league.

I donā€™t think 20m for Xhaka is some elite business given the season he had but itā€™s not a bad fee at all.

Tavares fetching 20-25m would be good as well, heā€™s not even worth that.

If you take into account:

  • The age of the player;
  • That he only has 1 year left on his contract at Arsenal;
  • That we are selling to a German team, rather than to another PL team;
  • That Arsenal want to sell Xhaka and Xhaka wants to leave this summer; and
  • The fact that there is only one team in for himā€¦

Ā£21.5m is a decent price and a good deal for Arsenal, Xhaka and his new club. Plus, Xhaka is on big wages at Arsenal, so we shouldnā€™t just think about the transfer fee.

Plus we need to think always about the bigger picture. We could hold out for Ā£25m/Ā£30m+ but risk no one being interested and us keeping the player for another year and then seeing him leave on a free. As with retail, old stock, doesnā€™t increase in value!
