New Sporting Director

Might as well make a seperate thread for all those rumours.

Ex-Arsenal players unlikely.

Don’t know what qualifications are needed for the job, plus unlikely to be an ex-player, I guess Per’s not in with a shout, then?

Rosicky was the link I saw earlier, guess he’s out then.

Tbh want someone just normal, experienced in the role and not gonna make waves but challenge Mikel enough that he doesn’t turn into Wenger 2.0

We want someone that is qualified for this job, doesn’t matter if he is an ex-player or not.

are we gonna go back to the manager being the ‘dof’ also ala wenger ‘we dont need a dof’

He’s our guy. Merino and Arteta will woo him.

Great shout.

We putting 2 and 2 together here? Weird how edu leaves and this guy decides to leave. I’m not gonna pretend I know everything about this guy but I do know Sociedad have been doing real well lately and have made some good signings

The basque connection… Sounds too good to be true.

Sociedad have a really good transfer record in recent years. Raplaced Merino too this summer with Sučić who is apparently doing great so far, 22 years old.

Yeah, Sociedad have been a bit of an inspiration for us because of their influence on Mikel. He’s said before that they’re that he still follows closely.

As a result, we’ve not only been interested in many of their players(Odegaard, Merino, Isak and Zubimendi) but we’ve also adopted some of their tactics(the way we use Odegaard is the same way he was used there, that ‘Xhaka’ role was inspired by how Merino was operating and now we’ve got the man himself).

Would make a lot of sense if we were to look at him if he is indeed available. He’ll probably be a great fit with Arteta and he’s also got a very impressive CV to go with too.

Arguably an even better fit than Edu was?

Could make a case about.
I guess it depends how much influence Olabe he really had on Sociedad but there’s clear change in trajectory since he arrived there in 2018.
They went from a bit of a yo-yo club within the La Liga table to a club that consistently finishes in the Top half of the table and competes for a CL spot more frequently. They even won their first trophy in decades during his time there.

coming up in the likes of daily express etc linking us to him now also
