Mohamed Elneny

Players like him and Holding are unsung heroes and when we’ve been hit by injury in a crucial part of a high pressure season they’ve really stepped up, especially Elneny.

He’s really stepped up in a big way.

This thread is full of people slamming him. For me he’s been nothing more than a great professional who’s largely done what expected of a squad back up when needed.

He’s much better than many give him credit for and played well again today.

The knockers can do one.

Let me phrase it this way.

Elneny replaced Partey and plugged the massive hole.

Also to add, his perfomances, alongside Eddie too, are proving Arteta right in not signing anyone in january.

Yep, he’s been an absolute hero in a crucial part of the season. Brilliant to have a guy like him, ready to step up when needed.

As much as ME is doing well , he isn’t the calibre of player we should have .

Maybe not if we are at CL winning or top 2 in the prem standard but right now I’d argue there are much bigger problems in the squad to solve eg centre forward or left back.

As mentioned previously I think he’s a really useful Gilles Grimandi style squad player at present and a big step up on Lakonga who needs to be sent out on loan. The recent performances when we’re under the pump suggest he’s not bad at all.

He’s as good a 3rd/4th choice CM any club could ask for tbh

We’re chasing fourth and he’s done as well as you could ask.

He’s not going to be the heartbeat of a PL winning first XI. However he will come in, shield and protect the defence as good as basically any DM, and provide a platform for better players to win you the game.

As 4th / 5th choice in a long season, given where we currently are, he’s as good as we could ever hope for.

Boring but devastatingly reliable. He’s been a key player in wins against Chelsea, United, WHU and now Leeds. Not just some shitty pleb, but does his own job really well.

Fine for him to get a new contract provided he is the backup. He didn’t get a game for months and then came in with just weeks left of his contract, and delivered 110% concentration + effort. Top, top professional.

I’ll actually be sad if we don’t give him a new deal now. Need to hold on to Mohamaldinho and start building some depth in the squad.

Bit pedantic maybe, but right now he is a second choice CM. An injury to either Partey or Xhaka, and he is currently ahead of Sambi. We have to think of CM as two starting spots for the eleven on the pitch, not one.

So I’m sure some people have seen this posted before but I came across this tonight in Reddit and it really captivated me. I watched the entire interview because it was honestly just so fucking refreshing to see astute questions answered honestly and sincerely by the player.

Elneny talks very earnestly about how he wasn’t necessarily in Emery’s plans and that’s why he went out on loan and when Arteta came in he was in the same situation. However Arteta changed his mind based off training and preseason and told Elneny he wanted him to stay. People often talk about Arteta’s man management skills but it’s something I truely believe to be a positive not a negative. How he’s got the fringe players like Elneny and Nketiah playing these last few weeks is nothing short of miraculous.

Elneny himself mentions that Arteta wanted to keep him because he can execute any plan Mikel wants to a letter. People in the past have used the safety blanket argument- something I myself have even bought into- but it really seems that Arteta is far too methodical to stockpile average to good players without reason. The fact that AMN went and Elneny stayed-later to be used- illustrates this beyond a doubt, what we don’t see in training matters a lot.

Now I’m still not Elneny’s biggest fan and I never will be, but that interview off the back of these enjoyable performances has certainly made me respect him as a player and as a man a lot more.

I hope he stays.

Lmfao, did the interviewer really say Guendouzi was “bang average” at Arsenal?

Said it before, Mo really needs to use this opportunity to secure a big fat contract. It will probably be his last big contract.
Reap the rewards brother, you have earned it.

I love how no one remembers Mido.

But yeh, I was one of Guendawgs biggest fans but it’s hard to say he was really fucking good here. You could see his £150m potential and his cut throat puppy dog energy but literally nothing looked good under Emery ball.

Our midfield was a black hole during those days. It still can be but it’s no where near as fucking bad

Hahah, I tried finding out who the interviewer was. Bit shocked when I found out it was Mido that used to play for Spurs.

Outside the slight on Guendou what did you think about the interview? Where are you on Elneny in general?

I know you would happily re-sign your boy Nketiah but that could be pragmatic in both an economic sense and in terms of depth.

Elneny I’m personally not so sure about, I really want better ball players, hence my hope that is the Tielemans deal. Though I’m starting to think as a pure anchor we could do worse at depth. Good energy levels, good vibes and as SRCJJ mentioned earlier he’s at least attempting to put those Songtastic lobbed through balls in.

Who said I’m happy to re-sign Nketiah?
I think he should go. Best for both parties.

Similar with Elneny.

They’re not gonna be starters next season and you best believe by the next transfer window they’ll be top candidates to go.
Eddie should find a club that will give him a starting role, same with Elneny. And Elneny especially, he should look to secure a fat contract as this will probably be his last big one.

You’ve been saying that Eddie is your boy for ages now, and he’s finally slaying.

Why champion him in the past if you don’t want him to stay at the club?
I know 90 percent of what you say is literally tongue in cheek but you seemed pretty genuine in regard to your love for our little underdog poacher

I think Elneny is a good guy, but I don’t know if anyone else has thought about the “playing for their next contract” thing where a player is extra-motivated if they are on the verge of “free agency” if their club lets them go. I’m not implying anything dishonest, instead that the focus and drive is above normal. I’m still against a renewal, but that’s because I want considerable depth in quality for CM for next season that is routinely rotated, and with decent coverage for injuries.

For example if we get Tielemans I still want another addition who would be good with cover in front of the backline maybe with some DLP qualities, replacing Elneny, while Sambi Lokonga will obviously be staying, continuing to develop. That actually helps to bring up another point, in terms of Elneny’s range and skill set with passing not exactly particularly great.

Liverpool, Man City and Real Madrid might disagree.

Had a good month though which I’m thankful for.
