I don’t blame him, I blame Arteta.

Shouldn’t have been anywhere near the starting XI

He was one of the better players on the pitch tonight.

Because he played with a condom on?

He was a huge part of our problem, so ineffectual you wonder if we’d be better playing with 10 men.

Only reason Arteta went for him is to defend deep and stay in the game but Alexander-Arnold put paid to that.

Yep 33 passes in 90 minutes was it ? What a beast.

The whole team only made about 46 passes in total, so that’s not too bad from Mo.

No change to my opinion from last week on this guy. Gap-filler.

Unless that gap is between defense and and attack.

Yep. Shouldn’t be starting. He is a great squad player as long as he never actually starts for us… oh…

Which leads me on to this…

Who would you have started? A lot of people are saying Ceballos. But seriously, what would he have done that would have stopped us losing?

Our midfield is shit. Elneny started because Arteta looked at our midfield options and thought ā€œfucking hellā€.

He should really try and emulate Bielsa rather than Guardiola . Bielsa literally bypasses the midfield to score goals. That is what we need to do if we are going to persist with a shit midfield.

Our midfield is mostly shit because Arteta decided to alienate his best progressive midfielder who’s only like 22 and can develop into an even better player. He’s already head and shoulders better than the guys that get picked every week. Then he is selling Torreira who is also a better player than either Xhaka or Elneny, and will go back to Italy be used properly and then be a beast like he was for Sampdoria before he came to ruin his career here. But yeah we’ve got a great culture so there’s that. We.might just win the culture cup this year if were lucky :+1::grin:

Guys, our midfield is shit because of years of poor signings. Nothing to do with Arteta, he’s trying to sign replacements but the London Colney tea boy and Guendozi are still on the payroll.

You can spot the children, they don’t take the long view and jump to conclusions based on nothing. Just saying.

It might not be Arteta’s fault but if we don’t get a couple of decent midfielders in this transfer window it will at least prove, what most of us already know, that our board don’t watch our games and certainly don’t care about success.

Any club who has no injuries and starts with a midfield of Elneny, Xhaka, Willian and Maitland Niles, against the best team in Europe must realise that they aren’t going to get much above mid table.

That is possibly the worst selection of midfielders I have seen us put out in a PL game.

Well yeah if you finish 8th with 56 points and your only notable summer addition is a 23 million quid centre back then it’s clear that ownership have no ambition.

Well it’s clear as day we’re chasing midfield additions and the links to Partey and Aouar have a lot of steam. So it’s clear we know what we need to add to the squad right now but we’re obviously limited financially and haven’t had much luck shifting the deadwood (Sokratis, Torreira, Guendouzi, Ozil, Mustafi, Chambers) which has hindered how much we can spend.

I could be wrong and I apologise if I am, but I seem to recall you dismissing our financial hinderance on a few occasions generally saying we’ve got money if we really need it.

Or you think this is the impact of Coronavirus loss of revenue etc ?

We’ve spent and wasted a lot of money in recent times, it’s shame we don’t have an owner who is willing to bail us out in times such as these.

This is the obvious issue. I think we’ve clearly got money to spend but the club just won’t spend serious money right now given the obvious loss of revenue from being out of CL, no fans in attendance.

You are right though I’ve always been pretty dismissive of the financial issues, I think we have money to spend I just don’t think we can commit right now.

The loss of current revenue is part of the problem with our midfield options.
Arteta doesn’t get a free pass though on the midfield.
His first action at the club was to block the loan of Xhaka and possible transfer of him back to Germany.

This guy ain’t it. Doesn’t have the mentality.
