There was zero practical need to extend him without CL football confirmed.
It’s really cowardly when you think about it really, I think the truth is senior management never wanted Arteta to see out his original deal because it would have forced them move off him if he didn’t deliver in 22/23.
Now Arteta has an additional cushion, there’s are plausible scenarios where he can go without CL football in the next two seasons and still retain his job

Conte football isnt for everyone but the results are hard to argue with.
Big oof that this dood took over an underperforming team that was mediocre af and had them with a +36 GD within a few months. What Conte does is effective.
Meanwhile the Arteta boot lickers will tell u that it was an amazing job when this dood has had 3 years of time to implement a system and has a +14 GD and wasnt playing any football more exciting than the scum. Conte is in a different galaxy to some cone boi who’s learning on the job my dood. Only 6 league titles ahead of him and he showed why with that ass whooping down the stretch lmaooooo

I have been watching PL for almost two decades now. I have seen much better football in that time period.

Truth is nobody wants to look inept at their job. The Kroenkes have big egos as do the Arsenal board. As we’ve all witnessed they are doing everything in their power to convince anyone who will listen that doing what Conte literally just did is impossible for the 8th richest club in the world. First off they admitted to having no goals for the manager. Just kinda do as best as u can type deal, and they’ve used that to excuse the failures.
So yeh they are going to give their guy time. We know this club are clueless. They didnt hire Arteta with a youth project in mind, the project thing was a crutch to fall back on when they initially failed to get CL through the EL with veterans like Willian ect. Kinda scary tho cuz they’ll keep making excuses regardless of the results we get apparently. One day the fans will start holding them responsible. Could be a while tho, ive said in the past we have enough cash to luck our way into the CL (which would buy him more time *shudder) it would be a very Ole-ish jaunt into the CL tho I can assure u of that.
