Mikel Arteta

Thank you, I have no idea who’s he’s referencing.

If I recall some of the blowback was against people throwing in the towel at the start of the season.

That was one of the most alarming performances under his tenure for me.

Sure, we’ve had alarming performances in his first 2 years but there were a lot of bad apples in that period that excused it.

There was genuinely zero positives coming out of this game. Excluding the first 10-20 mins, we were totally outworked, outfought and simply outclassed.

A genuinely embarrassing performance from everyone involved.

Cracks are hugely evident in his approach and how he views our attack and midfield.

So much focus on duels, defensive actions etc but he has become a very negative manager and the football we played in 21/22 is a distance memory

Reality is he may actually be a Jose or Simone type of coach and considering our squad that is potentially a huge issue, signing Sterling was never convincing and isn’t the actions of a team that is truly serious about dethroning City

In terms of the coaching the limitations are becoming painfully clear, yes we lost Odegaard but you’ve got to find solutions. It’s predictable, stale and lacking vision.

Incredibly sobering week and saw this stuff coming, was just hastened by injuries.

Going toe to toe with City year after year must involve improving, they simply haven’t done enough in the attack. A huge shame

Has to win a trophy and top 4 this season, or bust tbh.

He’s probably won himself one ‘off’ season and if this is the one, then so be it.

But he needs to ship out the crocks and buy some quality next summer.

This needs to change

That tweet sums it up perfectly.

What we needed to do in the summer was obvious to everyone except Mikel, Edu and the Kroenkes.

Meh.

Everyone talking about the players but I have bigger problems with the football. We’ve had a worse team and never looked like this. Most of our games have been painful.

Something has broke.

Or either we need to re-evaluate our players because I didn’t think Odegaard being out result in our quality dropping this much.

Instead of hiring pickpocketers, Arteta should’ve bought some attackers instead.

Just got the lineup wrong given the injuries.

Next time risk white put partey in his best spot and sub them when we’re ahead.

His position on Nwanuri is embarrassing tbh. Arsenal fans have over hyped him a bit but he should definitely be starting over Trossard.

And what’s that?

Has he started a league game since Ødegaard was injured? There is your answer

Super Mik needs to show us why he is Super cause his team hasn’t been any where near Super all season. Come on Mikel, shows us something.

No, why should he? He hasn’t exactly shined in his PL cameos since the break, has he?

Is trossard untouchable to you?

No, but I don’t think Nwaneri has done enough to warrant shouts to start.

I actually was for his sub today but I was soon reminded that he isn’t ready. He couldn’t exploit the space that he found on the right hand side.
A couple times Saka, Partey and White tried to pass the ball to him there but he wasn’t able to pick up on it.

He’ll get there eventually but in hindsight I wouldn’t have subbed him on based on how he faired.

I have to wonder what was going through Arteta’s (and the clubs head) this last transfer period. Why would you sell ESR and loan Viera and only keep Nwaneri even if you can see he has talent but don’t deem him ready enough to start. I know some will say well viera is crap, but right now he would probably have been more useful in our midfield than what we are doing at the moment. Surely if Nwaneri isn’t ready don’t you think it is dumb just to have only Odegaard and no other options.

Same with the wingers, we didn’t have any cover there to start with then he dumps Nelson out and panics and gets dead food Sterling which could be argued is a downgrade, lets face it he is washed and highly unlikely to play any major important games for us.

I wonder if they had a plan that disastrously fell through, or is this stupidity for the sake of stupidly taking risks with cutting too much squad depth too quick. Even if that depth wasn’t the greatest it was something. I mean ESR or Viera would probably have been quite handy with this awful start who knows it might have rescued us some points.

tbf, Vieira would just get barged off the ball so easily. He would’ve been murdered by the Newcastle midfield today.

Agreed with the ESR points though, think he might’ve been useful for us - but I also feel like he’d randomly get injured alongside Ode too

If they did have a plan that fell through then they should have had an alternative.
Wenger was master in leaving gaping holes in the first team and failing to buy adequate quality and Arteta should have learned from his mistakes.

As I said earlier, Arteta should stop constantly buying GK’s and FB’s and realise that going into a new season with squad players like Trossard, Jesus and Havertz starting upfront is simply not good enough for a team that wants to win the PL title.

It’s quite possible we couldn’t get our main targets for whatever reason but we ought to have known that could happen and should have had a contingency plan in place. Not signing an attacker shouldn’t have been an option. We knew we were a Saka/Ode injury away from losing a lot of our creativity. And also, we are hoping Ode and Saka will keep up their levels this season. What if Ode comes back and has a stinker for the rest of the season?
