A top class midfielder should always be scanning the pitch around him to get a sense of his passing options and the positions of opponents. If Ode had done that, on the first pass that Rice makes, could he not have received the ball on his left foot on the half turn (as the defender behind his left shoulder is ~15 yards away), and then progressed with the ball, with passing options on the left and right? Is that too much to expect from a player with Ode’s ability? Players like Wilshere, Fabregas would do that.

He was well capable of it 2 seasons ago and no injury takes away your instinct to attack, just takes away the ability to execute.
