Lol, we’re only doing this to block City.

Brilliant.

Maybe there was something to that look between Guehi and Arteta post-match. I believe @Flexo posted it

He also hardly celebrated that equalizer.

why another defender tho…..we going for 20 for 4 positions.

What if this means we’re looking to cash in on one of our current defensive players?

Objectively Idk what to think about this…

Saliba and Gabriel. Mosquera and Hincapie.
Yeah. Guehi would be the first cover for the CBs, but so many options out there…

This maybe pushes Hincapie to the LB spot primarily, with Guehi and Mosquera as the CB covers… Maybe Arteta is still worried about Calafiori’s lont term availability. That could be a legit reason for this.

Still, with all this in mind, does Gueh want to be only a cover?
He would join the best team in the best league in the world, but know your options are very tight with Gabriel and Saliba as your team mates.

Benjamin White

I doubt it. I still think we are looking at him as rotation/backup for Gabriel. The drop off when he was injured was huge so I think they are looking at how they can strengthen the squad. Personally, I’m very open to this.

I forget how much the option was for Hincapie? But Guehi on a free in the summer, even with a substantive wage offer and signing on fee, must be cheaper than paying a transfer fee for a new CB.

If he knows we’re interested and have told him to wait until after this season, then there’s no way he’ll go to Man City unless they offer him silly wages.

He’s not very available anyway. We are surely moving on from him, only a matter of time.
I know it sounds harsh, but it’s the bitter truth.

Although, out the rest, who knows, maybe Mosquera faces Kiwi’s fate? Probably has a higher potential than Guehi, but maybe Arteta goes for the more reliable mid term option rather than a guy with higher long term ceiling.

All in all, I think we should be after a striker more than a CB. We also need both a proper, adequate Zubi and Rice cover. We’re stacked at the back, as it stands, but definitely look a bit short in midfield if one of Zubi/Rice is out.
While we obviously haven’t found that guy up front yet.

I wouldn’t put too much weight on it but I was reading Guehi’s wikipedia page today and he is apparently this very humble and massively religious guy - father is a minister, still talks about religion before football, lives at home with his parents still somewhere in the London area.

It just made me think of this story a few weeks ago about how there is this big group of “bible brother” Arsenal players that pray together and talk about scripture, etc. I think including Madueke, Saka, Timber, Eze and maybe some of the South Americans.

You’d think he would be attracted to that kind of environment - could stay in London with his family and support system, play with a bunch of guys he knows from the national team, have that kind of religious bond with a lot of the other players, etc.

He will be available in the summer on a free transfer and he’d be backup / rotation for Gabriel. Mosquera is backup for Sailba.

Plenty of money for a striker and a midfielder. We are only going to be looking for 2 to 4 players in the summer window.

Ohh, yeah, forgot about that lol.

If you have a chance to get a player of his quality and PL experience, on a free transfer, of course you’ll do it.

Talking about him, I thought he was really really solid whenever I watched Palace this season. Didn’t see much in him before, but I think he’s a decent player now.

I rate him and he’s still a good age. We have lots to offer. He can stay in London, and reunite with Eze. We can give him CL football, and a shot at a PL title. Saying that @GC-Maniac and others aren’t a fan so will be interesting to see the reaction to this link now it has some legs.

I think we clearly represent the least likely path to starting regularly for a big club, so I’m ruling this one out on that basis.
