Mainoo, for a 19-year-old, is excellent and can be a mainstay for United for years.
There’s enough shit in that United squad for me to laugh at.
What’s excellent about him?

As a 19-year-old, he is excellent at all of the below
- Close control & dribbling
- Take ons
- Progressing with the ball
- Defensive positioning, tackling & interception
- takes up excellent position during an attack - As a result, scored some crucial goals
- Tactically sound, as he has played a bit deeper or a role as an aggressive attacking role - both convincingly.
He is good at and can always improve
- Passing
There aren’t as many 19 year olds or even players in their 20s who replicate his skillset.
Is that what FM says? Lad can’t defend and he’s nowhere to be seen on defensive transitions.

not sure about the stats. Just my observation from handful of matches I have watched him in.
He is an elite talent and I would be very surprised if he stagnates.
The stats don’t even back this up mate. He doesn’t progress the ball well he scores low in progressive passes and progressive carries. And not just slightly below average, it’s way below average.
So he fails the eye test for progressing the ball and the stats test.
Bar is low when Mainoo is being tagged as an elite talent.
Pedri is an elite talent from the midfield. Mainoo is not.

From my eye test, I see a Wilshere with the way he carries the ball and attracts opponents towards him.
The stats will improve.
You can have more than one elite talent
He played almost 2000 minutes last season and the ball progression was terrible, he’s started this season in similar fashion.
He’s a good talent but I don’t see elite at this point, doesn’t help to play under that fraud coach but in terms of what he has been showing I think there’s a disconnect with what some see and what he is actually doing.
He’s no Carrick at this stage that’s for sure

Yes you can mate but Mainoo is not an elite talent. There’s nothing elite about him. He doesn’t have any attribute that would make him elite. You even attributed loads of things to him he’s not even very good at.

I don’t know how you guys can’t see a player with excellent ball control and someone who can carry the ball progressively.
I looked at his stats and his defensive stats are great.

First of all I haven’t watched him much, maybe a few (incomplete) games, plus the highlights…
But even that most of the time is more than enough to spot some raw, outstanding qualities/attributes… I just saw nothing about him. A player doesn’t really have even perform good to show some ability, I don’t see it.
If he wasn’t praised as such a big talent and if it weren’t for his age I would probably have never noticed him.
He’s obviously ahead of most players of his age regarding his overall ability but I just don’t see anything outstanding about him that makes him such a talent.
I don’t exclude the possibility of him turning into a top player, definitely. But in his case it would take a lot od serious work to get there, I just don’t see a big natural talent in him.
I mean, compare him to Partey, he’s not close to him in any department. I don’t see him ghosting past players the way Partey used to to, driving the ball (doesn’t seem particularly agile or fast). I don’t see any outstanding dribbling or technical ability. I don’t see any outstanding passing ability or vision either.
Also for example Kovacic, who couldn’t settle as a player for years… A similar type supposedly, but his ability to dribble, accelerate, drive the ball was always world class from his Dinamo Zagreb days. It took ages for him to grow tactically though. Mainoo? He’s a wooden snail compared to a 19 year old Kovacic.
He just seems OK regarding all of that, more than OK compared the players of that age, but nothing outstanding compared to top senior level players.
