I mean, you can always be wrong where a one off match is concerned but this Arsenal side doesn’t look anything like a team that is about to go out and deliver the kind of performance needed to get the required result away at Man City.
And it does look rather a lot like the Arsenal teams we’ve seen go out in mid-late April in many seasons past and most especially in recent seasons and collapse once and for all.
I think it’s a fair comparison given the similarity in circumstances. Fitness and performance levels plummeting while theirs are on the rise. We haven’t gotten any more than a point at that stadium in the intervening years. We are in a better situation in the leadup to this game, but not by much, and not in my opinion by enough.
It might not be by 3 goals (although I think it might be), but I don’t think we are going to get anything more than a defeat that sets us up for another second place finish here.
Anything but a demolition would be a surprise to me at this point. If City don’t win, they’re a disgrace tbh, given how they’re in the ascendancy and all their players are fit.
It’s true that if you’re a team under pressure it means you’ve got something to play for.
But I’d rather have our pressure of being top of the league and a game away from a CL final than the pressure that spurs have of trying to stay in the PL.
if this team truly want it they can do it. They wont get a better opportunity to win it. If they turn up and go through the motions they lose my respect and all good will.
You cant expect it to be handed to you. Work for it and be legends of the club. YOU broke the 22 year draught.
If we had online forums in May 1989, I’d expect similar levels of panic, disappointment, pessimism and fury.
We didn’t expect that we’d win the league, it was down to the last match, we didn’t have the benefit of a few more games that could go in a our favour, an opportunity to make-up for losing to the favourites.
Sunday could be one of those unexpected, historic games that we sing songs about in the future, that we wonder how we pulled that one out of the hat and we appreciate that was the moment the balance of power was shifting.
Don’t underestimate the possibility of the improbable. It’s those days litter our history. And if it’s not a good day, unlike that night at Anfield there’s still some of the season left to keep the hope alive.
Our defence is quality, even with the injuries. Our goal keeper is reliable. Time for the attack to deliver something. No fannying about, let’s get some quality on the ball in the attack. That means that Noni sits out and Gyokeres is a weapon of the bench against a tired defence.
—-Martinelli—-Eze——-Jesus—-
——————-Havertz——————
Jesus and Eze should be fresh, so should Havertz and we need Martinelli’s pace on the counter and defensive workrate. All are capable of scoring.
The back 7 just need to stay focused. Trossard can come on when Jesus is burnt; Noni and Gyokeres are useful against tired defences and Dowman/Odegaard should be around if needed.
