Tbh I imagine no one is happier about this news than Torreira, actually gets to go play for a real club that would suit his style rather than some peasant Italian outfit that will be paying off his transfer fee over the course of the next 28 windows.

Partey’s on tiny wages, keeping him at the club would require big reinvestment into a new contract. I’m not saying this will happen but financially it makes sense for them to take some money plus a really solid player like Torriera.

It doesn’t run out until 2023. They can keep him at least 1 more year if not 2 and get the same money for him
Not at his age, the closer Partey gets to thirty the more likely clubs will look past a 50mil release clause and look toward a free transfer. And rightly so, but yeh letting him run down his contract probably wouldn’t be the worst situation for Atletico, they’re well protected and in a no lose situation.
Taking on Torriera for a cash swap deal would probably net them more money long term though.

Too bad the swap story is clear bull shit because why did it take Atletico so long to be interested in Torreira? Cholo didn’t just wake up one day with the realization that he’s admired Torreira all these years and he plays for Arsenal and it’s a perfect opportunity to swap him with Partey. If there was truth in this it woulda happened ages ago.
