From what we know is thhat Sesko seemed to be a priority early in the window and after he decided to stay there we ended up signing a player in every position but a striker.
We even lost a striker in Eddie.
The club saying the specific striker they wanted wasn’t available so will stick with Havertz sounds a bit like when a previous manager used to say “we’re only interested in special quality” and then persist with Giroud.
Arteta has been very direct in his interviews that we need bodies in. Let’s see what has to say in today’s post match.
Are there really targets not available? Or is it a case of KSE not giving the green light?
The squad is extremely thin right now. Players are struggling in terms of fitness. Squad lacks depth and quality. The decline is evident and will only get progressively worse.
Majority of our key players haven’t even entered their relative peak years. Nwaneri, MLS, Calafiori, Saliba, Timber, Saka and Martinelli are all under-23.
We’ve got a kid that’s being touted as the best English talent of his generation already training with the first team.
They’re already planning out moves for the upcoming summer, one of which is beating very strong competition to for a player that both of our competitors(City and Liverpool) wanted in Zubimendi.
Season has been a shitshow with our luck but the “project” is fine.
Reckon most teams out there would jump at the opportunity of switching places with us right now.
Josh Kroenke is a very smart guy and I was so happy when perceived much more interest in Arsenal project since he decided to step up leaving Stan behind.
Amazon documentary confirmed that. The way he supported Arteta in difficult moments was precious, an injection of fresh blood who really helped the coach to be fully focused on what to do on the pitch. But now it’s time to make another decisive step forward and show how ambitius this club is. Don’t lose my time dreaming to see Arsenal enter on the market and splash the cash for every talent under the radar like Chelsea do.
Completely understand the self sustainability model but we’re not talking of guilty pleasure players. Now we desperately need someone who can elevate the stock of Arsenal during this season and the next too.
I’m worried because what is happening now is something all the Arsenal fans already seen during the latest eighteen years apart from rare occasions. Already happened under Arteta reign too. During the first transfer window since the appointment (the winter one in January 2020) Arteta has been “backed” with Cedric and Pablo Mari, two deals clearly drove by super agents. But in this case I put my hands up and understand the board who wanted to see how the young coach was good before to invest funds.
But what happaned two years after? Arsenal lost Aubameyang and, despite the clear goalscoring problem of the team, preferred to not go on the market and sign a striker and staying with Lacazette (1 Premier League goal in five months) and Eddie Nketiah. During the same window Manchester City have signed Julian Alvarez, Juventus have signed Vlahović, Barça have signed Ferràn, Liverpool have signed Luis Diaz.
Now they have to act as they did in 2023, reacting after the time lost for Mudryk. Trossard was not at the top of the list of potential targets but has been an instant key player for the team, even now. Arsenal have the funds and the project to sit with the best players’ agents around the World and force them to make a move in the next two weeks.
Arsenal fans are gonna be gutted if this falls through. Nothing is guaranteed with Zubimendi, no contracts have been signed yet. It’s not official until it is.
On the other side, Zubimendi isn’t this world beater. He’s just another safe passer, I don’t see anything special about him or why people are so hyped for him.
I’ll believe the project is fine, when we’re back on track and start winning some silverware. We’ve been effectively dumped out of 3 competitions in about 10 days with the UCL all that’s remaining, which we stand no chance of winning.
Now we have to make do with just being a top 4 club again?
Timber, Saka, Saliba and Martinelli are all 23 already, soon turning 24…
Time is ticking to win stuff with these guys bar Nwaneri, MLS and Cala.
