Kai Havertz (29)

Arteta will really die on his pets hill. We are so fucked

Where’s this interview pulled from?

If he genuinely believes Havertz is the answer to our woes then he has pulled the greatest heist in football history in raw daylight.

Thought the A would give it away tbh.

Q and A about Arsenal on the athletic from the arsenal writers

It’s no surprise to me really, there hasn’t been any sounds about Arsenal being willing to part ways if an offer came for him so it feels plausible that Arteta still sees him as the main man.

It does beg the question of what sort of striker signing we will go for though, will a Gyökeres come and accept that he’s not going to be the automatic first choice?

I very much side with the camp that this is a signing which hasn’t progressed us as we would have liked, trying to not be stubborn about that but can’t help feel frustrated about it all.

Persisting with Havertz, who is barely adequate, as well as failing to bring in a top quality striker or winger in all the seasons he’s been here, is the reason why Arteta shouldn’t be allowed anywhere the decision making when signing attacking players.

Anyhow this bum is our first choice striker next season a certain manager needs cannoning out the club

Deep down, we all know that Havertz is going to be starting an awful lot of games next season.

What makes you think our failure to sign a winger / striker is on Arteta?

We will never know as none of us have an inside scoop on the club, but Arteta seems to get a lot of what he wants. We only spent 70m last summer, but it’s hard to imagine that Calafiori or Merino were board signings. That would infer that these are Mikel’s boys.

Jesus and Havertz were both Arteta signings - a summer apart. Realistic to think that he didn’t want to add another CF. In fact, he sold Nketiah.

I do believe Arteta pushed for a forward in January. The board probably blocked it as it would have been a panic signing.

It’s also clear that Arteta is hot on Sesko.

Havertz has 18 goals and 10 assists in his last 38 league games, all while working his ass off out of possession and providing an important outlet for us to go long in possession, making it harder for the opponent to press us.

You guys act like he is a bum when that 38 game stretch of play is probably the best overall year of play we’ve gotten from a 9 since Van Persie left.

Yes, that’s a better contribution than Auba scoring four more goals but not assisting and doing nothing in our build up play and being a lazy bum out of possession.

By far the biggest problems with our attack are (a) our other striker has been a non-entity for two years running and (b) our LWs are just below the standard. Kai Havertz getting a lot of minutes really isn’t our biggest issue and the hate people have for him is irrational.

Excellent post but people’s agenda will always reign supreme when assessing him

And a bona fide #9 is exceeding those numbers

Tired of this dude cosplaying as a striker

He’s backup at best and for £300K a week the value isn’t there

Which other top team is playing this guy at CF?

I think he’s a better CF than Darwin and Jackson tbh

Havertz is a good player. Some of the criticisms placed against him are unjust or over inflated. Heinz not being a good finisher or prolific are fair claims however.

Nunez doesn’t start for Liverpool and will be out the door this summer, Jackson is no worse than Havertz whilst having a higher ceiling IMO

This relentless debate about havertz is annoying. He’s not a guy to rely on in the key moments and that’s it.

We should’ve never signed him imo but, even so, we should’ve signed a striker last summer because Jesus wasn’t to be relied upon.

Jesus has since proven that further and therefore the need for a proper striker has grown. Havertz can be the B option or play as a second striker like Trossard did with Kai last year for a bit.

Whatever way you want to put the stats (this last 38 is a bit like arsenals calendar year championships), in the PL he scored 13 in 37 last year and 9 in 23 this year. It’s not better than giroud.

Why would you count the games he played as a midfielder when looking at his scoring record as a striker?

And were they not “key moments” when he scored 9 and assisted 7 in our last 14 matches last year to power our run at the title? Or when he scored the winning goal in a CL final?

If Havertz has a poor track record in the “key moments” then I shudder to think what the rest of our squad looks like in that regard.

No team in the running to win league championship titles will have Havertz as their main/only #9.

None of them.

He was signed as a midfielder, and then Arteta thought.. you know what he’s better as a striker. Just like Merino lol.

Havertz is a good player to have when you’re cruising in a game. But when it’s 85 minutes played and you need a last-minute winner, and you get only 1 chance to score the goal.

Do you trust him to come in clutch every time? Or a prime Auba/RvP?

I know he’s only just returned from an injury, but what did he even do in those last 2 league games? Felt very much like we were playing with 10-men again.

It’s not his fault anyway, the club/Arteta spunked £65m + £275k/week on a guy who couldn’t hit a barn door in 3 years during his time at Chelsea.

His numbers are much better in our side, but still nowhere near enough to where it needs to be.

All that to say, I don’t think Arteta rates strikers much in general - they’re the furthest down the pecking order of priorities for him.

He prefers to dream about inverting full backs and goalkeepers every summer, so I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t sign a pure #9.

Trossard also got loads of goals and assists in that run but that doesn’t mean he’s good enough to start

We need a striker who gets one chance in a tight game and you know he finishes it, hopefully Gyokeres is that guy.

One day, we will line up with a spine of Saliba, Gabriel, Rice, Merino, Havertz and Sesko and spend 90 minutes celebrating set pieces. Partey at right back for long throws.

Havertz has been better than I thought here to be honest.
