Opta’s definition for what constitutes a forward pass is stricter than most. Example:

While another site had Zinchenko on 41 forward passes that game
Zinchenko vs Newcastle every third pass (3.4) was a completed forward pass. That lines up exactly with Timber’s opta stats (3.4).

This was something that was highlighted in a ‘tactics’ video to be fair. He’s apparently conservative in his own half but when he dribbles through players and gets forward, his passing becomes more expansive.
We talk about Ben White having the technical ability to play in midfield in times of dire need however, I think Timber will take to the midfield position really well.
I think Mikel’s priority of having options in our backline may also be linked to the Havertz signing. If we’re defensively ‘weaker’ without Xhaka, then having someone like Timber tucking into midfield will relieve some of the pressure if the ball gets turned over.
While on Havertz, he’s certainly no Özil in workrate either, he does have some accountability for defensive play, so I don’t think we’re completely lost with Kai.

This is such good sign.
There are bigger clubs who pay better money but clearly the buzz on the footballers’ grapevine is that Arsenal is the place to be. It’s a satisfying way of outmuscling clubs with greater resources.
