Were they?
Most of the concerns seemed to be he was an ex-chelsea cunt to me.
His suitability for our system wasn’t in doubt and him being an upgrade on Lokonga was…well impossible not to be lol
Keep the 10/10’s coming Jorgi.
love the dedication mate
Can’t recommend the cookies. They’ve got like zero sugar.
Two established winners talking. Love to see it.
I love this. The togetherness and morale with the squad seems very genuine. Definitely something special about this group of players now.
These are the sort of players we’ve been lacking.
Like you say, they are both winners, which is a lot different to the players just collecting their wages we’d become used to without giving anything back to the club.
Although we missed out on Caicedo, who might have more potential, Jorginho has probably worked out better for us in our position because he’s experienced at the top level and is a real team player.
I am glad this signing is proving to be a good one. He fitted in seamlessly and we didn’t miss Partey at all in last 2 matches.
Still get giddy every time I see that third goal. So good to see that we have players prepared to shoot from outside of the box. Zinny was hotting pigeons until yesterday, Partey was in the skies for most of last season and I didn’t link Jorginho to long range shots before yesterday. All have scored bangers this season.
Add in Xhaka who has a rocket and Martinelli who can hit one - it’s another weapon.
Good point and it is an important weapon against low press.
Also pretty sure Ødegaard can hit them from outside the box but doesn’t take enough shots… he scored against Spurs from outside on his 2nd attempt from outside.
And Saka seems to be taking shots from outside after his goal Vs United.
Jorginho has played 3 games for Arsenal. I can honestly say that he’s the player I trust on the ball most. Not only does he keep it ticking with quick decision-making, but he’s making quite a number of midfield and defense-splitting passes when the opportunity presents itself.
Nerd analysis…be warned ;).
I had to dig into his stats a little and see if it matches the eye test. Only 2.4 games played and in terms of passing percentages, it’s pretty much the same as it was at Chelsea. The big difference is that he’s advancing that ball way more than he did at Chelsea, making quite a significant amount of passes into the penalty area. It’s actually quite a significant jump. Makes me think he’s playing a slightly different role at Arsenal, picking the ball up in positions that are further forward.
Comparatively, it looks a little similar to Sarri’s Napoli/Chelsea version of Jorginho albeit with less touches. Small sample size obviously.
Hopefully we can get 2-3 high quality seasons of ~20 games each out of him
I’d love to see Jorginho in the Xhaka role when Partey is back. Just as an experiment for a game or two.
Great post this being someone who is a fan of Napoli who has been watching them regularly for years I was always going to be confident he would be doing a good job for us.
The only reason anyone was down about him was he was seen as a "Chelsea reject " and because we weren’t spending 80 million on a much younger "talent ".
Granted he’s not going to be man of the match every game but it was a shrewd bit of business and he will fit right in.
I really was down bad with the Jorgi transfer initially however, and as highlighted above by fellow Jorgi-scrooge @Flexo he was really instrumental in this game where supposedly he was the more ‘defensive’ midfielder in the team.
Those defense-splitting/line-breaking passes looked so simple however absolutely potent from an attacking sense.
If this is a sign of what ‘pros’ Jorgi brings to this Arsenal team, the the better we are for it. Where teams see our big threat from the wings (doubling-up on Saka/Marti), having Jorgi laying off these kinds of passes through the middle really adds another dimension to the attack and makes it again harder for teams to wrap us up. Perfect timing considering the spell we are in and the last third of the season still to play.
I dare say that he may even have offered us more than Partey did in the Everton game
I just want to see you with an EPL title winning medal at the end of May Jorgi.
