James Bond

:+1: They destroyed Star Wars and will now destroy Family Guy.

This is the point that I wanted to make. I’m not really fussed about race swapping or gender swapping of characters - I found it rather weird that the incels were losing their shit about the black woman character in the Dune movie, when they probably never heard of the character or read the books. Made no difference to the storyline.
However, with Bond, you’ll essentially lose the essence of the character to the point that you may as well be making a spy movie with an entirely new character.

There is no next Bond. There is only 007.

Yeah I think you’re right there tbh. I think the original fans of the series will be pretty peeved off. As for the second group, it’s likely a very, teeny small minority.

The new Doctor Who casting is similar, though I guess in that case the Doctor can literally be anything, but it caused quite the outrage as well if I remember correctly.

If it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. Make a new franchise if you’re so desperate to create a ā€˜Bond-like’ character.

It’s bollocks. They wouldn’t make Shaft a white man with curtains or a Kardashian-looking woman.

This is woke bollocks.

He’s a good actor but let’s not ruin the Bond franchise.

I don’t mind a black Bond/007 but if you are talking multicultural, would a Sikh man with a turban also work? Or a man of Pakistani descent, someone like a Riz Ahmed?

Yeah for sure. I think at the last census it was reported that there are about twice as many asian people as black people in the UK, so why not a Bond of asian heritage if I’m fine with a black one? Well, the one thing would be that I find it harder to imagine an asian man being called James Bond than a black man being called that lol, but that’s not really a huge stumbling block, especially if you made him of mixed heritage, which could explain the British name.

Asian is a broad term obviously, but unlike the USA, in the UK our asian people are predominantly Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi etc rather than Chinese Japanese etc, so when we say asian here that’s generally what we mean.

To me, it seems to highlight an issue with films these days. Perhaps it is just my perception but it feels like a lot of stuff now is either rehashes of old stuff or otherwise extensions of franchises.

Note: I’m not a big movie guy so I could be completely wrong and lots of great, original stuff is being released all the time.

Sounds right to me. Studios seem paralysed when it comes to taking risks and orefer to go for established IPs to ā€œguaranteeā€ returns. It fucking sucks.

@Truth_hurts said this, James Bond should be a WHITE, BRITISH, MALE

Cut this multicultural BS.

If someone wants a female to be a bond, don’t call it James Bond.
Jennifer Bond, Jessica Bond.

Don’t call him/her 007
Call her 069

In the end, if you want to make so many changes to the original novel, why don’t just create another storyline and save the original for the original?

Agreed! Tokenising minority groups into caricatures of existing franchises is more sexist and racist than just creating a brand new world, story, characters with their own backstory etc.

Also LOL at 069

Don’t understand why it’s even a topic tbh, they’ve made more than enough room for co-stars to take a prominent role in recent films in particular.

Just keep bond himself as a white British man and cast who you want around him, couldn’t care less.

Also don’t do a shitload of spin-offs please Amazon.

Oh ok, well if Truth Hurts said it then I’ve changed my mind, thanks Ronald

They won’t…

true, I forgot that.

007 is simply a reference codename for an intelligence officer. It doesn’t belong to anyone permanently.

When Bond retired/died that number was passed on to Nomi. She’s not a female Bond, she’s simply his replacement.

There isn’t going to be one. People are clutching their pearls over nothing.

isn’t 007 directly related to James Bond?
When talk about 007, people automatically think of him, not someone else.

Well of course, he was also 007.

But now he’s dead and they didn’t retire the number.

My guess is we wont see any films about Nomi (a tv spinoff series is more likely), and instead we’ll get a series of films about the younger James Bond, when he first becomes a spy.

As soon as you start thinking of 007 as a replaceable agent number and James Bond as a honourably name, race or age doesn’t really matter anymore.
