Ivan Toney

I can’t see Arteta going from playing inverted fullbacks to route one football tbh

Not sure what inverting fullbacks has to do route one football.

Unless you’re suggesting using a player that’s great in the air as an outlet is a bad thing?
I mean, we’re currently doing it anyway.
Obviously we’re not spamming it but it’s a great option to have.

City do it with Haaland too. That was part of their tactics when they played us in the league last season and it certainly worked out well for them.

I think aerial prowess will be a key characteristic we’ll look for in the striker we sign.

To spend another 100m to play Brentford football??

Don’t worry about that, we’ve already spent 70m to play Brentford football with your boy Havertz.

Kai played only 2 games as striker for us, both Jesus was out.
We did not play anything like Brentford, at least Raya doesn’t kick the ball up directly to our forwards most of the time.

He played more than 2 games up top. He only started there twice.

And thanks for leading to my point. We’re not gonna play Brentford football if we sign a target man but are gonna continue utilizing going long from goalkeeper to one of the outlets like we have done before when the occasion suits it.

A great example is our performance against City at the Emirates where Raya was pinging pinpoint balls to Jesus and later on Havertz which they simply couldn’t defend against and was a big reason why they couldn’t control the game like they usually do.

Toney would be a good target man and he would give us a different dimension upfront. I still don’t think he comes cheap, but if the fee was reasonable I could get behind a move for Toney in the summer as an upgrade on Nketiah. But not convinced he is the elite striker that we need.

Toney, at 40 - 45 m, as a second choice striker would be excellent but there is no chance of that happening.

It all depends. I think 100m valuations are unrealistic. It’s the magic value being touted to the media.

He’s gonna have 1 year left in his deal in the summer.

It took the two best teams in the country for West Ham to get 100m bids for Rice last summer.

Toney ain’t Rice and Brentford ain’t West Ham.

I think at best they get 80m but that’s if he comes back next week and has an exceptional second half of the season and there is big demand in the summer.

My expectation is that he’ll do very well, and he’ll go for around 50-60m in the summer.

I do expect his wages to be excessive either which is something that’s usually overlooked when talking about transfers.

I would rather Toney now, but there is value in seeing how he returns for Brentford before splashing out.

Just can’t see this transfer happening.

Maybe we wait til Summer when he has a year on his deal and see what Brentford are wanting then. Maybe slap down 50m for him, a similar amount or more for another forward, sell Eddie and give Jesus more time on the wings.

Even if we sign a striker, we are still in dire need of depth on the wings.

Toney, another forward and Zubi could be a pretty delicious summer window.

Toney to Rice ever since he signed for Arsenal:

I really like Toney but I doubt he’ll cost even 80M let alone 100.

Really like him as an allround player. A great passer, good vision, creative, handles the ball very well, almost plays as a 10 at times, which is very strange for such an athletic guy who is beast in the air.

Not too young, but he could be a bit like Vardy… Only emerged at the top level quite late, there could be quite a few years of top level football in him left.

Poor man’s Kane.

Yep, that’s what I always thought of him.

More of a rich man’s Troy Deeney. I don’t hate that though.

Troy Deeney better than Kane, haven’t you heard?

The way Deeney explained it made sense to be fair, but it did seem a wild statement at the time.
