Granit Xhaka

I think there’s certain elements at this club like him and Ozil who have to be taken out of the current environment.
Probably won’t get replacement in but I think the new set up needs these sort of personality gone.

And yet we started him in our last game.

Positive energy > hate

Unless you frequently watch Hertha anyway, then watching a bottom half Bundesliga team and hating on them just seems rather pointless. And anyway, if you dislike Xhaka that much, then why are you hating them? They’ve done you a bloody big favour!

Guess it says a lot about our respective dispositions. Hate comes to me easily.

We did and in some ways at times he may even be the best option.
Just think there’s to much baggage now and we should roll with it.
Think the club as whole messed his situation up and it’s one of the few episodes I personally excuse Emery on.

I’m not sure I’d put Xhaka quite in the same basket as Ozil in terms of attitude.

I think Xhaka probably does care but lacks the insight to be able to fully recognise, own and learn from his mistakes. I do think it’s possible to coach him to be better though because he’s still hungry to do well from what I can see.

With Ozil I think there’s something more fundamentally broken in his mind which has lead to him doing a better job at improving his video gaming skills than his performances on the pitch. I think he’s completely done as his mental problems are now so deep seated and his mega contract has now made him super rich for life so he’s unable to really care enough to change. The guy even calls in with a sick note at the slightest hint - he’d get ill if you even touch him with a feather these days.

I do think though that Xhakas relationship with Arsenal and the fans is now so deeply damaged that it’ll be better for him to take the January move and he still has a chance at a new lease of life. I think he’ll care enough at a new club to really try unlike Ozil who’s now broken from what I can see beyond repair not just at Arsenal but anywhere.

Maybe I’ll eat my words in a few months time but somehow with these two I don’t think so. I’d still like both of them to leave the club as soon as possible to mark a new beginning. Neither has been very good (not sure Xhaka ever was) for a very long time so it’s not like we’re selling our best players or prospects with these two which I’d be completely against eg we should try and keep Auba.

Thread has kind of covered the CM overall… and while I am pretty down on our overall quality there in its totality, some of that is inexperience too…

If Xhaka leaves, we have:

  1. Ceballos - needs minutes when he returns
  2. Guen - probably our most promising player in this position, true box-to-box, and he can actually break lines, which is massive for us
  3. Torry - not as high on this guy as some others, but he offers more energy and defensive awareness than Xhaka (which isn’t saying much), plus his passing is at least ok…

Willock and I guess ESR can be back-ups and that is ok enough as long as Ceb and Guen don’t get injured…

Ideally summer we figure out what we’re doing with Ceb (I hope we keep an open mind to other options too) and reinforce with at least one top signing here.

Hertha is really his level - mid-table Bundesliga at best.

Agreed, CM isn’t as major an issue as AM, time to replace the creativity and energy we now lack from Ozil - Ziyech please oh god.

Haha, yeah, whereas I tend to feel sorry for them more than hate them. I always give them the benefit of the doubt. Even with Xhaka, I’m probably the only one who still hasn’t told him to “fuck out”

Maybe my sarcasm didn’t translate properly. Nobody with a baby has time to watch extra matches! :arteta:

But part of the allure of sport is the pantomime villain. Xhaka has certainly made himself into one in my book. Maybe he’s a nice guy off the field but I’ll definitely have a chuckle if his exploits in Berlin go sideways…like all of his passes.

Keeping him would be a loss.

We should have taken a punt on Fekir

I’d genuinely go get Shelvey from Newcastle to fill Xhaka’s void whilst we rebuild and look for a long term viable #6

I’d be a resounding success. Anyone that doesn’t agree knows nothing :upside_down_face:

We need a gundogan like player if we wanna play Artetiola ball. No more stiff, low iq midfielders pls.
