Ahhh that could be it, or at least a significant contributing factor.
The only other country I know that has a similar level of shame and embarrassment about their national flag is Germany, and we all know why that is. So maybe the National Front back in the day making it their symbol might have put people off.
Maybe we should start a trend of having our county flags in the top right corner. Focus on local pride as well as English pride.
Or redesign it to have a red heart in the middle. Something that makes the far-right recoil in anger that their flag has been tainted by something that represents love rather than hate while also marginalising the original one.
One of the least patriotic people that you will meet where it pertains to England as I donāt necessarily consider myself English although I get reminded how English I am when I go to my parents country of birth.
Iām absolutely loving this trend of roundabouts being ādecoratedā with the English flag. Itās so sad to see people afraid to embrace their Englishness in fear of being labelled far right or racist. National pride is something which has gone from this country. Even the word Pride means something else now.
Hoping itās a trend where more potholes and roundabouts are given a splash of colour. English people need to claim the flag back so that it no longer is flown with negative connotations.
Yes, England has a brutal past of colonialism and even serfism and peasantry but so does Scotland and I doubt that the Scottish are afraid to, or even ostracised, for waving their flag with pride.
I can walk around with a Jamaica flag and people will shake my hand whilst a friend might get a few sideways looks for doing the same with a flag of St George - itās crazy.
Iām all for reclaiming the flag and being positive about it, removing any negative connotations. But it gets complicated when a fair number putting up or painting the flag are doing it like this
It isnāt an entirely innocent movement by any stretch, and some of the organisers are absolutely horrible English nationalists, racists and of the far right.
Ultimately, the people who have malign intentions (which is absolutely not everyone joining in, to be 100% clear, as I was in my last post on the subject) want lefties like me to be outraged, they want us to say āthis is racist!ā or to object in some fashion so they can get even more normies on side with their insidious agenda by saying any opposition to them is ridiculous, which is quite reasonably how many will view it. Theyāre basically looking to get a rise out of people who understand their intentions.
The only response is to ignore it or just say āyeah, no problem with the flag, itās a lovely flag, you crack onā
No doubt, some small-minded twats are using this movement to push right wing agendas. Iām hoping that this is the minority of cases but I actually have no idea.
The problem with this country being fucked is it has to be someone elseās fault aside from us, the white people, we canāt possibly be the problem, itās been the case since the 60ās with every nationality that followed into the country after that⦠Indians, Pakistanis, people from Caribbean, Lithuanian, Albanians, the eastern Europeans and now this.
When are the thickoās going to realise that whilst all this shit going on housing asylum seekers is playing right into the governmentās hands because without a doubt theyāre upto some shady shit elsewhere whilst this dominates the news headlines.
Also, fuck Nigel Farage. Iād genuinely think about leaving the country should he be voted in.
I agree. Iād hazard a guess that not many of those earning six figures or more are lambasting refugees for taking their jobs and making the streets of England unsafe. It will be mainly those who the government have been letting down for decades and their family tree for generations.
Jamaica is an interesting case (and you can speak on this as well) despite the history between the two. From experience the country has a relatively positive view on England.
Going to a local bar you see all sorts of artwork on thr front and insde. Iāve seen a quite a few St. Georgeās Cross. The perception of England over there is fascinating given how bombastic the country is about being Jamaican.
