What ever happened to ready and willing union busting scabs!?
"The unanimous decision of this court is that the terms woman and sex in the Equality Act 2010 refer to a biological woman and biological sex.
But we counsel against reading this judgement as a triumph of one or more groups in our society at the expense of another, it is not."
Lord Hodge, Supreme Court
Not really worth it for the SC to to open a can of worms to even hint otherwise. The originalist position is the only position.
I think in 70 or 80 years time the opposite position will be accepted
Yeah all of the rhetoric against trans people is the same rhetoric used against gay people 30-50 years ago.
Weâll look back on this the same way we look back on how we treated homosexuality.
Common sense wins.
As someone who experienced that rhetoric, I just donât think itâs the same at all.
It was a general disgust that fed all the anti-gay rhetoric. People were simply repulsed by the idea of two people of the same sex sleeping together. And that doesnât even touch the religious element to that rhetoric.
But for this issue, I donât think itâs that. Now Iâm absolutely sure that some people are repulsed because I think we can both agree that there are some fucked up people in this world. But I think the majority who are âanti-transâ simply believe that claims are being made that defy human biology.
In particular I think itâs the children angle that is the root of all of it. If it were only adults transitioning, I donât think people would give a fuck.
I think its âwomen spacesâ element which proving to be the most contentious and toxic the UK.
I can genuinely see both sides of the argument, but I think itâs fair to question why a biological man should have access to womenâs only spaces purely due to self ID or arbitrary transition process.
I think thatâs a fair question. But it should also be pointed out that it can be unsafe for that person to go into a menâs room too.
Itâs messy either way you look at it.
I have to strongly disagree with much of what you said but definitely this part. The same fear mongering about children was used against gays as well. Ironic because itâs usually religious institutions with the child abuse scandals.
Trans people are such a small minority group that theyâre an easy target for bigotry. Theyâre such a small and misunderstood demographic that have few allies that would come to their aid when politicians or celebrity dumbasses like Rogan peddle bigoted views of them.
Bigotry against small minority groups like trans people is always a gateway for people to sign up to an entire agenda of hate and exclusion.
I canât say for sure but it feels like even some gays, who should understand the ways people become marginalized, harbor some of the same ignorance about trans people that can then be weaponized by hate mongers in government and elsewhere.
If I were born in the last 8-10 years, I guarantee I would be being told I was trans. I am 100% certain of that.
How are they even going to police this lol
So many trans people are basically indistinguishable - especially if theyâve had bottom surgery.
You canât even write this sort of shit lol
Imagine youâre a woman whoâs been fear mongered to about a false bathroom trans panic. Next thing you know youâve got male perverts invading your bathroom in the name of investigating whether youâre trans or not.
This trans fear mongering is just a few steps away from women losing their right to an abortion and thatâs only a few steps away from getting disappeared to a Salvadorian gulag.
Donât fall for this shit.
When I was a small boy and I was out with my dad weâd use the Gents*. If I was out with my mum, sheâd make me go with her into the ladies. If I went to use the toilet on my own outside I would use the disabled toilet - that is until I got yelled at by an older lady in a wheelchair.
Why did I share this? I am not sure.
*(I am, as yâall know, an absolute gentlemen.)
I wouldnât feel bad about this. The only disabled people whoâve ever had a problem with my daughter accessing disabled facilities were elderly. They seemed to think they were the only ones entitled to provision.
Hmm I donât know, I find a lot of objection (Some of it fair, some of it unfair) far extends beyond that. Womenâs Sports, Pronouns, the concept that itâs being âshoved down our throatsâ just to name a few. These typically usually only involve adults and thereâs still quite some resistance.
The children part might be the most objectionable element but even without that I think this âcultural battleâ for lack of a better term still exists.
I think I agree with most of this.
The culture war stuff thatâs surrounded online discourse on trans issues has been a major contributor to the pushback against trans rights in recent years.
Thereâs a proper discussion to be had but it gets drowned out so quickly by polarised online views.
Iâve never heard either sideâs main concerns satisfactorily addressed - for example safe access to womenâs only spaces on the one hand or clarity on how trans people will be protected from discrimination without being recognised as a member of their identified gender.
As someone who is trans and transitioned some 15 years ago now it is concerning to see the current change in tolerance/attitudes etc. in recent years.
It really does feel like the country (and honestly, the world) is going backwards at a rapid pace and hate and bigotry is on the rise. Itâs sad to see really, and I wonât lie that it does feel scary at times.
The backlash these celebrity âastronautsâ are getting is fully deserved.
