Pretty typical opposition tricks, the opposition does not set the legislative agenda particularly for symbolic gestures.

The whole situation has been poorly managed by Starmer, really poor read of political and social climate. Should have call a new inquiry with a specific focus on grooming gangs to under cut opposition attack lines.

I think Starmer took the right approach in wanting to implement existing findings and not waste millions more on a public inquiry and delay proceedings further.

The last inquiry took 7 years and apparently Ā£200 million, so unless anyone can highlight very serious flaws into it and itā€™s recommendations, we absolutely should not be having another inquiry. But Iā€™m yet to see someone calling for an inquiry actually acknowledge that there has already been one.

If it was that badly flawed, Iā€™m open to hearing about it and changing my mind, as the most important thing is the protection of children. But from what Iā€™m seeing, the best way of doing that would be to actually implement the findings and recommendations of the inquiry that has already actually happened.

The Tories are absolutely shamelesss trying to hop on this bandwagon against Labour. At least in the case of Reform or more fringe political actors, they can say that they werenā€™t in government and in a position to do anything about it, but the Tories absolutely canā€™t.

UK borrowing costs hit their highest for 16 years - and who was in power back in 2008?

There was outcry (rightly) after the Truss budget. Reeves is no betterā€¦but then what do you expect giving her the treasury with her limited experience. The good thing about Truss was she was gone after a few weeksā€¦

Iā€™m no fan of this government but on the economy Iā€™m much more hostile to the corporations and businesses whining about not being pandered to enough.

Ā£awyer$.

I worked on a public inquiry back in my paralegal days and I can assure you the length of the inquiry is always massively overrun by the senior management and members of management who want to squeeze out the most of their overblown day rate that they possibly can.

I remember when they asked me to review documents (bear in mind they also had separate teams of doc reviewers too) that had previously been reviewed by 3 separate paralegals over a 3 year period prior to me and I had to make sure that the other 3 hadnā€™t made mistakes and had ā€œgradedā€ the documents relevancy appropriately.

But they changed the criteria of what was relevant 3 years later over very very minuscule reasons so of course the grading would change and suddenly an entire new team would need to be created to consider these documents again lol.

Long story short - scamming lawyers, officials and members of management extracting as much of the publicā€™s money as possible.

A bit like everything else in this country. You only have to look at government contracts for highway maintenance and construction, exactly the same procedure, just a different industry.

Hinkley point nuclear powerstation Iā€™ll use as a pointā€¦overrun by absolutely millions and by yearsā€¦ Yet upwards of 1000 people a day stood around doing nothing (and I mean genuinely stood around doing fuck all) but getting paid huge sums for it. Scaffolders earning Ā£130k a year for just turning up.

Always just talking shite I guess thatā€™s all thatā€™s needed for that Ā£400k salary

Do we know what the findings were, and what recommendations were made?

Yes.

Feels like itā€™s embedded in so many industries. I have people in my workplace that I genuinely have no idea how they add any value to the company. Most of them actually have zero experience in the industry and spend all day on teams calls talking about nothing and comparing stats they didnā€™t even compile themselves.

A lot of the corporate world is just a giant bubble maintained by mates scratching each otherā€™s backs.

Dean windass diagnosed with stage 2 dementia

very interesting to track, Zuckerberg claimed the ā€œcultural pulseā€ has changed. The corporatist view is highly skewed and fundamentally flawed, I think both sides of the political spectrum would agree on that

He just doesnt want to get fucked over by Prez Musk and VP Trump, simple as that.

(Being silly about the Prez/VP bit, but I sincerely mean the rest, Zuck moves with the prevailing wind)
