Macron and Biden have so much in common, so desperate to cling to power and so delusional about their own ability that they’re both leaving the door wide open to the far-right.

It’s not just Macron or Biden’s fault though, they’re simply the face of the parties they represent.

It’s the entirety of the apparatus in power which neglects real concerns people have and therefore flock to either a right wing nationalist story or a left wing socialist story.

We might not agree with the concerns many people have, but they’re important to them and those centrist parties have shown year after year not to take them seriously or outright neglect them.

Housing crisis, inflation, mass immigration are real problems for many who vote (extreme) right or left.

Don’t forget the media’s part in this.

They are so obviously doing the bidding of those in power lol

More and more people see it and go against it, hence the increase in populism on the right and on the left.

We need a populist centrist party then. One that shits on the old boys club and aims to completely reform how parliament and politics works. At the moment it serves Westminster that the general populous aren’t interested in politics most of the time. That lack of interest allows corruption.

I think that’s something that most of us Brits can agree on.

That’s not a bad shout.

It still would need to address those aforementioned concerns and come with solutions to prevent a mass exodus to the fringes on either side

Interesting how it seems centrists are less likely to vote tactically to keep NR out in France, than the leftists.

Macrons boys demand you hold your nose and vote for them, but would not do the same for you.

Lol, typical neoliberals. Would rather a fascist than some social democracy.

Will be great to see the UK become a becon of light and progress for the moderate left centre in contrast to a increasingly right wing continental europe.

I take it you’re being sarcastic :wright2:

Don’t know about ‘beacon of light’ but it is going to be interesting to see how Labour government is going to manage these relationships, also a potential Trump administration in as well.

I can see Lammy being thrown under the bus tbh.

I hate incidents like this and what happened at the Hajj a week or two ago.

Very interesting developments in France…looks like the left have united against National Rally and appear to have denied the far right a majority in the parliamentary elections.

Looks like Macron’s gamble may have paid off

Macron’s gamble worked, but it seems to be delaying the inevitable.

Apparently (from my limited understanding) France was already ungovernable before, this distribution of seats between three groups that hate each other would make that even worse.

Good result for the left. Maybe it’s catching. Maybe Europe isn’t lurching right in 2024.

I wonder if our vote had an influence in shoring up the non-fascist vote.

Maybe we helped. Maybe they’re also seeing numbers of right winger slowly die out as younger voters take their place.

This is the first round but apparently RN does well with all age groups and performs the worse with the oldest.

I think it’s just postponing the inevitable. A rag tag coalition of left (leaning) parties with Macron’s centrist party.

Sometimes it’s better to burn it all to the ground and build it up again.

This way it can steadily increase its support over another 4 years.
