I got measles, chicken pox and bacterial meningitis all within a 12 month period.

I’m not so sure that party helped

What sort of household did you grow up in?

That god that bullshit is a thing of the past with the chickenpox vaccine coming to the UK.

Just bad luck. Two of them are very infectious diseases, and the meningitis was random.

Yeah a few years ago I ended up with stress induced shingles and was off work for 2 weeks.

Thankfully it’s mild but my understanding is once you’ve had it you’ll very likely get it again and when you’re older it’s horrific :frowning:

Get your shingles jab in right away, I’d say.

Can I get it when I’ve now had shingles?

I don’t know for sure, but it’s worth enquiring.

Absolutely - will do!

The CDC says yes.

Never knew chickenpox and shingles were the same thing. Will have to have a word with my GP when I next see her.

Yeah it’s the same virus, not sure why the name is different

I’m betting that we didn’t connect the two until much later, because of how long it stays dormant for, and the name stuck.

Speaking to your GP should see you receive the vaccine in 10-15 years.

I had a vax called Shingrix about ten years ago. I was told at the time that it doesn’t entirely eliminate your chances of contracting shingles, but does reduce the chances by a significant amount. So I’m ten years in and have no sign of shingles. Hope I haven’t spoken too soon.

Having shingles pretty much eliminates the chances of having it again.
So I’m covered.

Does the UK not have quick clinics via the NHS where you can bop in, get a shot and leave? In the US it would be at a place like Walgreens or CVS. Maybe the UK equivalent would be a Boots?

GP’s or Hospitals only I think. Although they did expand this for Covid.
