Yeah, I recently saw this doc/vid about a bunch of survivalist/militia types, going out in the woods to do “combat training”.

It was less proper training and more a bunch of fat, amateur idiots LARPing in the woods. Fucking losers would get taken apart in an instant by genuine military personnel lol

Exactly, these morons play dress up and would be dealt with in a matter of seconds by proper military personnel.

There is no reasonable argument for a civilian to be able to buy weapons of mass destruction such as ARs and semi automatic rifles.

A hunting rifle at best is tolerable in my opinion.

Anything that has a magazine or can fire more than one round should be banned. Most people don’t know but even in most militaries the standard issues rifles are semi automatic or burst shot, so the idea that semi automatic rifles are suitable for civilians is ridiculous, these AR’s have a high rate of fire so a magazine which holds 30 rounds can easily be discharged at a very rapid rate. But worse than that it’s easy to modify, I think I saw @k1tsun3 say she was in the US military so she will know what I’m talking about. But the stock on a the M16/M4 platform can be easily replaced with a bump stock which basically turns the rifle into a fully automatic weapon using the recoil of the rifle. It takes 5 seconds to remove the stock ‘stock’ and a couple of minutes to install a bump stock, you don’t even need any kind of expertise to do it. And it’s readily available to buy.

Don’t ask me how I know but even hand guns can be very very easily modified to basically become a sub machine gun. There is a switch made by glock (who are also probably the most widely available and used hand gun) that takes about a minute to install and can turn a simple G17 into a fully automatic hand gun, talking an insane rate of fire. With all the accessories available, theoretically I could buy 5 32 round glock magazines and go on a rampage and kill and seriously injure hundreds before I’m stopped. There is no way these should be available to anyone. Not even law enforcement unless they are a special branch, in my opinion.

  1. It’s really about weapons industry profits and control of the government through lobbying.

  2. It’s about being afraid of your neighbor who also has military grade guns and violent fantasies.

Reminds me of this :joy: I haven’t played much Air Soft, but I’ve met plenty of these guys when I started with paintball 20+ years ago. Guys dressing up and acting like we’re about to storm the beaches of Normandy ffs. It’s a sport/game supposed to be fun and a laugh. Nothing realistic about it at all.

Forev, these gun nuts often cite Netherlands for pro gun opinions. I don’t remember the specifics but do you guys have a gun culture to small extent?

Really? I never heard of it… generally US conservatives talk negatively about the Netherlands because of our positions on gay marriage (legalised), marihuana (semi-legal), other soft drugs lax control, legal prostitution etc.

Personally, I know nobody who is pro gun in the Netherlands. To own a gun, it’s possible, but strict rules apply and a background check is carried out. You must store either the gun or the ammunition in a different location outside your house.

So I don’t really know, curious to hear or read what those opinions are that you refer to?

It’s usually Switzerland they cite as an example of a high % of guns in circulation and ownership but without the corresponding violence.

It’s a valid point to an extent if you’re examining the criminology and culture of each country

Also in Switzerland it’s not ARs citizens possess but simple handguns.

Switzerland has mandatory military service and after it’s over they are allowed to buy their service rifle(which a lot of people do).

In America most gun deaths are with handguns…

Plus how did a actor shooting someone turn to gun control, firstly as a former filmmaker the props person should have been fully aware what was in the prop gun, and she didn’t so this is sheer incompetence.

You are a former filmmaker?

Yeah I’ve also got a degree in film and tv production.

Ps just to mention, the director and dop should not have been standing in the line of fire either, due to fact even if it was fake billets there are still chances debris can be discharged. All in all it was a complete fuck up.
