Islamic regions have been quite liberally progressive and tollerant for periods in it’s history. Abbasid caliphate in Baghdad had the greatest libraries in the world at the time. They had a scientist who’d developed a theory of evolution. Much of that knowledge base was lost when the Mongols sacked Baghdad and destroyed the library of Baghdad. While most of the people were killed. Much of their culture was lost in this massacre.

Istanbul was seen as the most religiously tollerant trading region in the world under the Turks for a period.

The so called Islamic World will benefit from labour unions and socialist movements. The Muslims in India largely became Muslim in the first place because it was far more socialist and fairer than the unfair Hindu social structure.

This bit is untrue.

There wasn’t really any form of islam on the Indian subcontinent until the Mughals come in. Taking their houses, taking their jobs, taking their women, forcing their religion.

Here’s how the teacher could have provoked the children and been totally on safe ground. So there is a picture book called Mohammed and the Camel, I think. It depicts Mohammed’s shadow, not him himself. Maybe he could have discussed well what about a mirror image. Can we draw his face in a mirror? Or what about if we add eyes or a mouth to the shadow. At what point do we need to stop. Simple little exercises like this would probably create quite a lot of deep thinking in young children and be far more purposeful.

There may have been some segment which did that but not the large majority.

And I don’t see how converting to Islam would have been an escape for them.

It was a theory of a Pakistani friend of mine, he believed it to be the reason for the large conversation to Islam. If you think about being from a lower caste. Eliminating that social inequality by changing to a more meritocratic belief system would improve the life chances of those who converted

Fair enough - very balanced post

Maybe. Possible. Muslim influence in India goes quite far before Muslim invaders came from land, so you never know.
From financial POV, it makes sense. From Social, it doesn’t make a difference.

Do you not think the 2 things go hand in hand? I mean I suppose Pakistanis disrimate between their castes too. But at least it’s seen as unethical amongst them to a degree. And I appologise that I don’t know about the Hindu ethical outlook between caste discrimination.

Well the tag ‘untouchables’ doesn’t go away with wealth. I would assume that they would remain at society’s fringes because people would know these Muslims were previously from lower caste.
I don’t want to elaborate much on this I have very little knowledge about that time period at the moment.

You may be right but I’m also going on the Islamic philosphy that all Muslim Brothers are equal and should share all within each other. I think that;s why they grew so successfully. It’s a powerful message against inequality.

I didn’t know they had a message of equality.
At what point did they start hating each other then?

I think it’s more solidarity than addressing inequality.

I’m sorry everyone mocks and derides other religions what make Islam special? I can’t remember UK having blasphemy laws like Pakistan. Most here mock Christians yet I see a sudden defense of Islam and suppression of others and enforcement of they rules onto others.

Yeah. Devastating but not unsurprising given his plight. I thought he was clean but when you were an addict for so long you’re never really too far off a relapse.

Doesn’t get enough credit but he should be in anyone’s top 10 ever list. His body of work in the late 90s and early 00s was legendary.
