Gabriel Martinelli (11)

Welcome back Martinelli

Heā€™s already looking more threatening then last year and got more numbers too.

Now to get on that 2022/23 form please

Today was that classic slightly scuffed effort that a player bang out of form in front of goal just needs to roll gently into the corner and he got it. Minutes later heā€™s got an assist so as soon as it hit the back of the net you could see the wind was in his sails.

He was great against City as well particularly doing the dirty work in that second half, hopefully the end product returns now cause that would ease one of our biggest concerns this season.

He did well and I hope this gives him more confidence but heā€™s still far from being the player we had a couple of seasons ago. Letā€™s hope he keeps improving.

I thought the left hand side with Rice, Martinelli, Calafiori looked the best I can remember. Excited to see Merino slot in there.

Calafiori especially seems very good at unsettling defences picking up weird positions with good runs. Hopefully we see Martinelli thrive now.

We might have a honeymoon period where teams havenā€™t worked out whatā€™s going on and how to stop it, Martinelli needs to capitalise on that.

Very early days for Calafiori - Martinelli partnership but there is something there. If they can develop the understanding Saka and White have on the left, weā€™ll finally get the balance in our attack right. Of course, Martinelli has to show a lot more of what he did against Leicester. Letā€™s hope he does.

I donā€™t think Zinchenko and Martinelli had bad chemistry though.
Ultimately, I feel Martinelli was the most detrimental to that side of the pitch for the majority of that season because his confidence was low and his weird decision making became even weirder.
When Trossard got a run there he was thriving and Jesus didnā€™t do too bad there himself.

In fairness to Martinelli, there was a short period before his injury in February where it looked like he was finally getting to form.
When he came back he couldnā€™t recapture it though and frankly he didnā€™t even look fit(others have also pointed that he hasnā€™t looked as rapid as he used to be).

You see Martinelli yesterday, especially after the goal, he was on it and kept being a nuisance for Leicester, making smart runs, willing to take on people, willing to shoot more.
Hopefully he continues this way.

I wanted to mention that the other day too.

That was his best period of the last season and the only period where he really looked good and you could tell heā€™s an important part of the teamā€¦ Then got that unlucky injury and never managed to get back to that level.

Youā€™re in the wrong thread, itā€™s the Jesus thread now, Iā€™ll try to keep you updated but it changes every 5 minutes, I even think it was the Tomi thread for second in between, not sure

Great substitute performance. Heā€™s getting his form back. Massive goal he scored today.

If this guy finds the form he showed two years back, heā€™ll make a huge difference to our prospects.

Repaired the left-side and suddenly heā€™s getting his confidence back. Good run and finish from Gabi

Is he still allowed to switch NT if he wanted?
I checked online but I find conflicting answers about it.

Why would he be allowed? Heā€™s literally played competitive games for Brazil including the WC

Heā€™s played a competitive game for
Brazil, so no. Not that heā€™d want to either

He holds a dual citizenship. Heā€™s part Italian.

Yeah but thatā€™s not how it works. You canā€™t play multiple competitive fixtures for your country and then switch allegiances
