Good to know, I’m not alone.
How wuude Klopp is a legend and that’s a million dollar smile. Hes not a psycho murderer
43-45m for a striker who is PL proven and is coming into his prime years is pretty decent in today’s market imo. Though it also goes to show how inflated money has become in modern day football.
I mean if City are going to be so amenable we should ask them to soften their stance again. And soften it even more on Zinchenko while they’re at it.
Those city cones didn’t pick themselves up so nice to see karma in action
Getting Jesus at about £40m is such a fucking bargain. And Tielemans for about £25m as well.
That’s two key positions upgraded for £65-70m.
Where you at @BigWeng_4LYFE, are we outsmarting the market like daddy Wenger did?
Don’t get it twisted, Wenger spent the last decade of his time at Arsenal buying young players and turning them into stars (Ramsey and who else???) and bringing academy talent into the team (Iwobi and Gibbs ftw!!!).
Securing the player is only half the battle. It’s what they do once they are here. Laca and Auba were both 50m assets at one point and they both left for free never having played a CL match for us. Arsenal is always a great option for a player like Gabriel who isn’t good enough for City but wants to be paid. Hope he’s coming for the right reasons.
You know the standards have dropped massively when signing 2 above average players with 1 year left on their contracts for £70M is considered good business.
Look at the market buddy.
Look up the definition of bargain buddy.
£70M doesn’t get you what it used to.
I don’t think they are simply “above average” players either. With the PL and CL on the line the last couple months, Jesus was consistently one of the first names on the team sheet for one of the best teams in the world led by the one of the best managers in the world. He isn’t a traditional 20 goal a season #9 but he would be our best or second best forward depending on how you rate Saka.
Tielemans had a bad year last season and has both strengths and weaknesses but is a 25-year-old who many people had as one of the best midfielders in the PL for the previous few seasons. At 25-30m that really can’t be anything but good business in today’s market.
I like Jesus and would love to have him, but let’s not pretend that £45M is great business, if anything, we are overpaying. And I am not buying the argument that buying a player that gave away 4 penalties for £25M is good business. It is a high risk high reward move for me at best.
Tielemans was poor last year and that’s why he is 25m not 60m like he was being rumored last summer. But he didn’t give away any penalties in his previous years at Leicester so I don’t think its a fundamental flaw in his game.
There aren’t any secrets or hidden gems in football any more. Every transfer has risk and if you’re shopping in the 25m bracket the player isn’t going to be a sure thing. But IMO Tielemans is a much better gamble than some rando midfielder from France or Germany that will also cost 25m.
He may have been worth 60M when he was playing good and when his contract wasn’t about to end, but given his recent season and the fact that he has 1 year left, £25M is not a bargain. 25M for a player on worse form than Xhaka is not a bargain.
If we ignore Auba’s last 1.5 years at Arsenal then he was an excellent player too, does that mean he is still a 50-60M player?
Auba is fucking 32. Come on.
I can totally understand if some people want a different midfielder than Tielemans. But arguing that Tielemans at 25m is bad value is past the point of reason. It’s just negativity for negativity’s sake.
If anything that doesn’t fit your worldview is negativity than I don’t think anything that I post is going to change your mind. But I am not buying it that you can’t upgrade on Xhaka with £25M unless you go for Tielemans.
I sure wanna hear your thoughts Tchouameni and Nunez then…
I am sure Real Madrid and Liverpool know that they paid/are paying over the top for them and aren’t going to parade around calling these 2 bargains.
So who would you sign for £25m that would be a better option for that position?
