The absence of Odegaard has done this

Indeed. Some are very bullish about him.

Reminds me of the same bitching Madrid fans were doing for Camavinga a few years ago and then later on Guler and now Endrick.

Mind you all three of them were significantly more proven at a senior level for both club and country.

I get it, Nwaneri looks like great prospect but he’s still a kid. Same goes for MLS.
Arteta is showing them trust this season, I don’t think there’s any reason to rush things.

When we had shit players in our team, I would be all about giving young players more chances because there was greater value to be had to play them over the likes of Cedric, Mari, Holding etc.
You throw ESR, Saka, Martinelli and most of the time, you get something out of it.

But considering we have Merino, Rice, Trossard, Partey, and Jorginho; I am alright with easing Nwaneri. Plus I am glad Arteta is taking chances instead of his usual cautiousness.

Trying to drive a narrative that just isn’t there.

Some just don’t understand that, there is no such “direct replacement”.

When Xhaka left, there was no “Xhaka replacement”. Kai, Rice, Tross even Merino, none of them played like Xhaka. They all had different roles because they were not Xhaka.

When Martinelli was benched, there was no Martinelli replacement. Trossard, Jesus and Sterling all played a different game from him

When Ode was out, some screamed for Nwaneri.
Probably because he is an attacking midfield, kind of creative. They just don’t understand, Arteta did not look for a replacement. When Ode was on we had a set of style, and when Ode was out we had different set of tactics.
It was never ever a CAM for CAM in real life, at least not under Arteta, not always for teams.
Probably once Ode was out, Arteta already setting up something without an Ode’s role; so not giving Nwaneri minutes because he was never a direct replacement as some thought.

Quite over the top, in any case Arteta plays his part in it in saying they aren’t going to put any restrictions on him and that if he deserves minutes, he’ll get minutes. Additionally, he said if he continues to show his quality it makes no difference if he came from the academy compared to if coming from abroad from Italy, Germany or Argentina.

Then there’s the comments after the Leicester appearance also which came off the back off the first senior goals he’d scored against Bolton.

Some acting like certain fans are pulling Nwaneri being hinted at being able to play more in the circumstances we’ve seen in the past month or so out of thin air or as unreasonable which just isn’t the case.

Speaking for myself, I am worried about how this season will pan out if Saka and Ode have one of those seasons where they miss a few games. We have relied on them being bulletproof for most of the last 2 seasons but maybe this season we don’t get as lucky. What happens then? Does Mikel have a plan?

I know it’s a “what if” scenario but the drop in attacking threat is so significant with them two missing that I can’t help but imagine the worst. And I think that’s where the Nwaneri talk comes from as well. We are desperate for a creative outlet and he’s the closest we have to one, even if he’s not ready for this level cause the others have just been woeful.

Having said that, it’s a small sample size, and we have to trust Mikel to find a solution if Saka and Ode continue to remain unavailable.

my favorite precision shot

It’s a Jedi trait.”

Listen, Arsenal might not thank me but get the contract out, put it on the table. Let him sign it, let him write whatever numbers he wants to put on there, given what he’s done since he’s come in. Nwaneri’s at the wheel, man. He’s doing it. Arsenal are back!

Loves a shot. I love that. Would have never made it under a previous manager.

Definitely more of a shooter than a passer.
It isn’t just his shooting though, he’s got great awareness in the box to get in those positions.
Can see why he was used as a #9 at times at a youth level.
If I recall correctly that’s where he played against Spurs too.
Great profile of player to have.

Could have had 2. Another one skimmed the bar.

Very good instinct for goal, confident shooter.

He’s got a bit of everything to his game. The most standout trait though is just how instantly he controls the ball, can shift and move the ball so quickly. He does it effortlessly, without thinking or really looking.

It’s the mark of a player who is just supremely gifted.
