Ethan Nwaneri (22)

Not hyperbole at all :ode2:

Time to sell Odegaard for £100M for this monstrous talent.

Can we take everything one step at a time?

Excited to see what comes next for him.

I think he’s plenty quick and strong enough for the PL but he really needs to work on his engine and his defensive intensity. He’s not going to take time from Odegaard until he shows Arteta that he can lead the press competently and that he can keep up the required intensity.

kinda forgot over the summer that he was still with us lol… would we sell or just keep as deep, deep CM and striker depth?

(re: Merino, not Nwaneri)

Merino is a great asset to have in the squad.

Cool, good to have it sorted.
Was always a nothing burger for me.

In what sense? He (apparantly) isn’t creative enough to play as one of the two attacking midfielders, he isn’t robust enough to play as a single pivot/defensive midfielder…so our solution, again, is to play him as a striker because he has really has no other use :face_holding_back_tears:. Half of Arteta/Edu’s midfield signings haven’t brought what they were supposed too.

He can play as an #8 in place of Rice and as you mentioned he can even play as a striker if needed.

If we want to compete in all fronts next season, you need players like him in the squad.
Hopefully his presence here makes the bedding process of Zubimendi smoother as well. Same for Mosquera.

In the post-truth world of Twitter ITKs, this is actually a 2+2 year contract, equaling a 5 year deal.

Sequential, overlapping 2 year terms, starting each after 6 months… contrary to initial reports, each successive term adds a clone - its like a new signing every 6 months!

It’s a 1 year offer that is fully paid.

And then another 4 years, which is classed as a 4x1 contract, where Ethan will again, be fully paid.

:berta:

What do we think the ceiling is for him? He’s insanely talented but I reckon reliable squad man. Don’t think he’ll reach Cashley, Cesc or Saka status as indispensable- but that’s ridiculously high bar.

Well he is already a decent squad player at an elite club. You don’t think he makes much improvement at all from here?

Kid is only 18. Think he’ll ultimately reach FIFA 85-90 overall rating. :winking_face_with_tongue:

I really think his ceiling is almost as high as it gets, but it’s mostly down to him and his attitude (partially other outside circumstances) how far he can develop it.

He could end up being better than Saka, he could end up as Nelson, no one can tell at this stage.

The attitude is there, as shown but Ethan needs stronger backing from the manager too. There were times last season, where he could have played more, especially when Odegaard was injured / struggling with form.

Also his ceiling level may be achieved at another club if not at Arsenal, eg Gnabry was always a good talent but wasn’t backed as well as by other clubs ie Bayern. Same goes for Biereth.

Hopefully we see more of Ethan in terms of minutes and starts next season but also hope Ethan can improve on his positioning and physicality. All in good time I guess.
