He’s gone if a decent offer comes in.
He should get one more season and if it’s the same thing with injuries or he can’t raise his game to the level we’re building then he should be let go, yes he’s one of our own but this is a ruthless game especially at the very top
Can’t afford passengers especially when it stops us signing others in the same position
Says plenty that Arteta hasn’t really trusted him despite being fit enough to get more minutes than he has
I’ll take 20m from Villa right now. He’s done here.
If we’re honest, even pre injury problems do we see him suiting where we’re at and looking to go further?
It’s a real shame because prior to this season he really did look like a gem and he already had the end product but the latest injury seems to have totally limited him. Nelson in his cameos is now light years ahead which I wouldn’t have imagined saying a year ago, he literally moves like a snail out there now. I don’t see him necessarily ever reaching the heights we hoped for now.
Honestly I’m doubtful but he does have age on his side.
With that said age doesn’t mean much when you aren’t playing enough minutes to actually develop for one reason or another
Yep, he’s barely had a sniff since returning but when he has he’s looked well off the pace. Wherever this coming pre-season is, he needs an injury free one to hit the ground running.
If a good offer in you certainly have to evaluate it but he would be nowhere near the first time I would look to offload from the team.
There’s at least 8 players who should be prioritised to be sold in:
Holding
Tierney
Cedric
Lokonga
Runarsson
Tavares
Trusty
Pepe
This is ridiculous.
ESR will be fine. He’ll be an asset. An injury ravaged season and a cameo against a team where the pressure was on both sides isn’t going to make me think he’s turned to shit overnight.
I don’t think it’s a guarantee he’ll be fine. What he showed pre-injury has earned him enough goodwill to probably get another season but if he doesn’t pick up soon it may be his last at the club.
He low-key needs to consider how he approaches preseason. If he cares about his career he’ll have to put some serious work in.
I think this is the problem we have right now, and I can recall us having the same issue with van pussy around 15 years ago (gosh, that’s a long time)
With ESR the quality is there. We may just be confusing impact and attitude with a staggered return from injury right now.
I still find it a bit knee jerk wanting him out. He was our best youngster last season and he’s been injured this season.
That’s the cruelty of the sport sometimes. Look at Pedro Neto, he looked destined to be one of the best wingers in the league a couple years ago. There was even a chance he’d join us last summer. Unfortunately though, his injuries have staggered his development massively.
ESR is not only unlucky about his injuries, he’s also unlucky because the Arsenal train at the minute is moving incredibly fast. He certainly wouldn’t be in my transfer list this summer but if his status in the team doesn’t change in a year then it’s very likely he’ll be on the chopping block come summer of 2024.
I’m honestly not sure either of those things are true. He looked woefully out of shape to me yesterday and Arteta has not used him.
Edit: I’m not saying he’s suddenly untalented, I just think circumstances are not in his favor.
I will roll the dice on him and bin Viera. There is no room for a double gamble though.
Tbf you’ve been saying that since we signed Vieira.
For better or worse there is probably more of a market for ESR because he’s English. Continental clubs will hit us with the Klarna payment plan for Vieira given where he’s at rn.
He’s competing with a shit Fabio. ESR can be from outer Mongolia, he’ll still attract more interest
I actually didnt mind the signing. I thought from the Europa group games early on you could see he lacked in most departments.
I think a loan might suit them both depending on their contract situations.
Someone has to absolutely stick around as back up for Odegaard and that’s probably Vieira right now. Probably the position Vieira looks most naturally suited for at the moment. Which is fine really he doesn’t have to play every role in midfield to be a success here. If he can fill in at CAM a little next season then it will have been a better season for the lad than this one
