Remember when Erdogan wanted him to turn Twitter off in Turkey and he did?
It’s a mystery why centrist Musk is so quick to meet the demands of right wing governments like those of Erdogan and Modi but refuses those of the left leaning Brazilian government.
I think no government should turn off any social media platform.
It’s inherently a ln authoritarian move to control the people. Good thing thousands of Brazilians are protesting it.
You perhaps noticed in my posts I am not a big fan of governments wanting to have access to social media platforms, and coerce changes, suppression of information or anything else.
That counts for Russia demanding opposition content to be taken down, to the U.S. pressuring to delete Covid information and other topics they deem to need to have control over the narrative. It extends to Brazil as well.
It’s funny how some “democratic” people (not talking about you fyi) on this forum have very undemocratic desires: force people to vote, or be glad someone can’t vote (because he would vote not for their interest), excuse the government for suppressing information which should be available for people to read who choose to do so, and so forth.
P.s. turkey wanted limitations, which is undesirable for me, but it’s a total different thing from shutting down the entire X platform and fining companies who still use it.
I’m of the opinion that companies should simply comply to the laws of the country in which they operate and countries over the world shouldn’t have to bend their laws to fit the self interest of a few billionaires.
Would you say the same if the laws of the country l he should stick to means: banning opposition politicians, banning undesirable speech, suppressing information and so forth?
Personally, I am completely and utterly against it.
If a countries laws go against the value beliefs, mission or vision of a company I would expect the company to simply not operate in those locations.
When Musk caved to threats and banned content posted by Erdogan’s opponents you defended that move by saying it was better than having the platform shut down for the entire country. I want to know if you think the same in this case. Do you think Musk should have banned them at the request of the Brazilian government in order to ensure that the rest of the country retained access to the platform?
I did defend that at the time, it’s true. The way it was, was he would limit the service in Turkey during the elections. Is it better than shutting down the entire platform, I think so yes.
Brazil asked to entirely delete opposition accounts. That wasn’t the case in Turkey at the time.
There is a difference imo.
There’s a difference but not a very significant one. You might as well entirely block your political opponents on twitter if you are going to block them from posting content criticising you on the eve of an election, the ultimate function in both cases is blocking dissenting views of your political opponents.
It isn’t enough of a difference to justify taking a different stance.

Well, that’s subjective
Let me say though in hindsight, I think it was wrong of him to cave into Erdogan’s demands. And I severely dislike his Israel position.
I still think the businesses he runs are great (Tesla and space X) and I think X is better than Twitter was, which for many of you it isn’t, but for my experience it is.

Fair play
I think X is better than Twitter was, which for many of you it isn’t, but for my experience it is.
Why?
I love reading a football thread on X/Twitter and having a big titty honkers profile cutting in explaining the trequartista role to me.
The only thing that has changed between Twitter and X (yuck!) is the moderation and amount of sexual ads(to be fair this has reduced).
On a product level, it’s the same with perhaps less technical reliability.
This is some nazi pseudo science. Fucking nonsense gibberish.
The tweet is overboard but I do think a vast majority of people don’t have critical thinking and will consume the first bit of information thrown at them.
I wonder what Musk’s actual thoughts are behind the vague “interesting observation”.
I hope all Teslas have developed a hive mind and catch fire at the same time.
I have two neighbors with Teslas. Both cars failed. I laughed, twice.
The Cybertruck is one of the ugliest vehicles I’ve ever seen.
Said it before, worth mentioning again.
