It’s a bizarre thought process to begin with, but Gmail is not just a mailing service now.
It’s Gsuite collaboration products + storage + SSO and so much.
I wouldn’t give all of that free utility up for stupid Xmail.
Elon will be lucky if he gets even a million individuals to signup for a paid service like that.

I found the screenshot in my fb feed, but just used Google Lens to analyse the image, copy the text and search google. Mad how far tech has come that we can do this shit in a matter of seconds.

I’ve actually heard less than encouraging things about that particular service. 
I believe Lavabit has a free encrypted email service - the one that was used by Snowden.
I just stick to Gmail
this is a massive point.
the google stack is so integrated in so many peoples’/companies’ that switching away from all the utility advantages with its integration for a paid service without that seems far fetched.
It might be a good move for some individuals who dislike the data integrity issue but I doubt that will be big numbers based on how large the share of the browser market google has (~2/3, i.e. ppl clearly don’t give a shit about their integrity), and free alternatives already exist for them already anyways.
Elon would need to offer more than just an email.
