So you saying we just want one striker and if he gets injured we just go too Eddie.
Eddie
Jesus
goalscoring winger to replace Pepe
We are good
Well he will have to be because neither of the other two are proven goal scorers.
Don’t get the faith some of you are buying into.
I am have been Nketiah in ever since his Chelsea game and am happy with him and Elneny staying, but I can see where those that aren’t for it coming from. The issue for them is that he isn’t good enough to be a back up striker here, not that he is going to be too expensive for a secondary striker.
I am sure giving Laca a new deal would be substantially cheaper than the overall cost of a new first choice striker like Jesus, but does that mean doing so is a good idea?
That’s not enough though.
Last year for forwards we had:
Auba
Lacazette
Eddie
Right Wing we had:
Saka
Pepe
If you’re right, we go into next season with:
Forwards: Big Signing, Eddie, ???
Right Wing: Saka, Big Signing
It’s not enough. And yeah maybe 100k/wk won’t break the bank but if the idea is that it’s cheaper to sign Eddie than find someone else, I’d much rather the club take a run at Oshimen than meet Man City’s valuation on Jesus. Saving money on Eddie only to spend £50m on a guy with one year left on his deal and a questionable goalscoring record (albeit a hot hand at the moment) would be really frustrating.
Been seeing this alot but its not really sound logic.
There plenty of interesting CF prospects out there who could be obtained for less than £26m who also wouldnt command major wages either
For instance City signed a highly rated alvarez for £14m
So what happens when Jesus gets injured and you have to rely on Nketiah for a sustained period?
You’re convinced that lil run (if we can even call it a run at all) means he can lead the line for us?
This is how we get screwed when we’re in a pinch, we’ve seen this script before and it ends up as a terrible movie.
Seen these arguments consistently over the years, made them myself plenty of times too. Cheaper to keep Xhaka than sell him for only 12m, a replacement would be 40m. Cheaper to keep Ozil than sign someone that good. Wilian for free is really good business. I didn’t like this player but he had a good few months so I don’t mind them getting an extension now.
Then you have a team full of weights around your neck that you’re waiting for them to leave.
If people think he has what it takes and needs game time and development and patience then fair enough, but Eddie is a player I look at and all I can see is future dead wood so can’t get excited that he’s plugging a hole this year on the cheap.
The idea that Nketiah is a cheap solution isn’t a good sign for the upcoming window.
Not much money to be raised from sales either since the squad is already stripped. We’re going to find out what kind of budget this club really has and I have a feeling that CL Injection might of been tad bit important.
Mate, c’mon…when.
I was okay with Nketiah for 2 or so years but having him on books for 5 years is a potential deadwood scenario in 2 seasons.
I hope someone is willing to buy him after a season
Don’t forget, if we sign Gabriel Jesus and he goes to the WC, it’s likely Eddie will have to shoulder a lot of the load during the winter. All those WC players will be exhausted.

It is absolutely sound logic, you have to count transfer fees and wages into the equation. So you sign Alvarez for £14M + add ons and then pay him a salary of what? At the end of the day you are back to a similar cost overall to what we will have paid for Nketiah but we know what he can do when called upon.
Should Nketiah be a starter, no! is he capable of being a backup considering how many holes we have to fill, I think definitely

Maybe it’s okay for the 22-23 season, but if he tanks and we need to look elsewhere we’re in a pickle.
We can’t move him on and maybe can’t chase someone like an Alvarez because we’ve committed to a guy who wasn’t good enough, except now he’s on a rather large wage.

And if the new signing we make for £15-20M incl add ons tanks you think you just get rid of him…maybe simpler, but we know our total exposure to Eddie is £26M. He is a known entity, so we know his personality within the squad, we know how he behaves/effort in training, we know what he brings on the pitch.
With no transfer fees, if Eddie leaves now he gets a signing on bonus at his next club - say Palace and he will be on a lower wage but over a 5-year spell the cost will be the same. That is what we are competing with in order to keep Eddie.
With all we need to achieve this summer, I personally have no issues with this deal or the Elneny deal.

we know what he brings on the pitch.
That’s the concern. Those limitations were painfully clear. I’m not sure he and Jesus are different enough to really change up the attack.
Am I supposed to believe extending Eddie is all part of the great project plan, when he didn’t get any game time until Lacazette got covid, and was on his way out the door?
We know what Nketiah brings on the pitch by virtue of how many league games again?
How many tried and tested seasons again? I’m seeing a whole lot of rose-tinted projection

So if we cant determine Eddies quality based on little game time how can you conclude than he is not good enough and the club is making a terrible decision by extending him?
Perhaps by the fact he had played 51 minutes prior to February and didn’t get game time based on his training sessions that were so awesome, magnificent and awe inspiring
