Eddie Nketiah

Yes we will…and can’t wait to see you and @BigWeng_4LYFE with agendas against Arteta have to eat your words when Arteta succeeds at Arsenal. @BigWeng_4LYFE rarely makes an appearance on here when we win. Only comes out after we lose and revels in it.

Five-years, £100k-a-week circa, up to £5m bonus over course of the deal.

I retract my post. Eddie was getting nothing close to those figures as a free agent. Huge overpay for a mid level talent, at best

I don’t have an agenda mate. I actually was supportive of the appointment.

I just haven’t seen enough in the 2.5 years to be optimistic anymore :sob:

You may have missed this, Flexo said it’s moreso 80k plus bonuses. So he’s on what ESR, Martinelli and Saka are right now.
They used the “circa 100k” to bait clicks.

Your not also one who thinks he was getting that at the likes of Palace are you.

I think he must have been offered big wages for sure.
That’s the game when you’re a free agent. Teams overpay on wages because there’s no fee. We did that with that moron Kola and the other one, Willian.
He already had plenty of sides interested, I’m sure his form recently only added more interest and improved potential offers.

Nah. Clubs of the level from West Ham down are not paying that for Eddie.

They’re certainly master baiters. Got me fooled.

I saw and stick by what I said. He’s not getting anywhere close to that number from other PL clubs or abroad

I’ve explained before Arsenal don’t need to pay over the odds for a player like Eddie

I don’t know how this new breakdown with the wages and bonuses makes the situation any better. He hasn’t done squat to earn that and questionable whether it’s reflective of his ability.

I think he did. But I do agree that doesn’t mean we should match or get close to matching those wages.

I think the club looked at what’s available out there and decided Nketiah offered better value for money to support Jesus. DCL would have cost 30-40m and would have asked for big wages, Tammy would have cost 50-80m and would have asked for big wages, Osimhen would have cost the same and would have asked for big wages.
The guys I mentioned are far from perfect btw, they all come with their issues.

For example, I’ve bigged up Tammy before but I have mentioned that sometimes the donkey comes out of him. He was fucking awful in the final today, one of those performances that make you pull your hair out actually.

I knew what was coming after Arteta’s presser:

Far too expensive but it was clear as day this was happening. I can’t say how I feel until I see who we end up with as the Aubazette replacement. If it’s just Eddie and Jesus that ain’t enough

So are you expecting a better no 1 option than Jesus ?

Or just that we’ll sign 2 strikers and Eddie to be a no 3 option ?

100k seems par for the course. No idea why people are getting their panties in a bunch over this.

I’m hoping we will sign at least two attackers of high quality, whether that’s one striker and one wide man I don’t know. I guess we have to wait to see if Pepe moves on

I think it seems clear that Pepe is going to be moved on this summer. I know other disagree but giving Nketiah a new contract makes sense IMO. It means we can focus our transfer funds on key positions, which if Pepe is going to be sold, would include a winger, along with a new striker and central midfielder. Gabriel Jesus and Serge Gnabry are both potentially achievable targets.

Other than Vlahovic I’m not sure there is a top quality striker out there that is available, so like @GC-Maniac was saying I think we need to focus on bringing in versatile attacking players that individually are capable of getting 10-15 goals a season. Based on their stats Nketiah, Jesus and Gnaby would give us that and Saka, Martinelli and ESR can achieve this too. Odegaard’s assist stats will only contrinue to increase and is capable of increasing our goal tally.

@The_Invincibles out of curiosity what sort of heights are you anticipating we reach in the next 5 years ?

Win a league title ?

Win a CL title ?

Challenge for both but not ultimately win them ?

I’m just trying to get a gauge of your expectations and level of belief in this project.

Given how positive I am on here about the project that’s a really fair question.

I have to caveat my expectations slightly on the basis of Edu and Arteta repeating their sucess from last summer in the transfer window. I remain genuinely impressed with the additions made to the squad last summer, and strongly believe that we now have a core of excellent young players.

I’ve seen a real change at Arsenal, and I think this season the team has taken a massive step forward which we can build on next season. So…next season, and subject to Edu and Arteta making the same transformative signings this summer, I think we will get back into the top 4 next season. I also think that with the investment in the team, we need to aim to win one of the cups or potentially the Europa League.

In terms of the next five years, I think if we can secure top 4 next season and then consolidate our position, we can mount a serious title challenge and win the league within that timeframe. Man City and Liverpool are probably the best two teams in Europe right now, but if we can keep the talent we have and continue to strengthen the squad I think we have a genuine chance of being league champions again. During that timeframe the likes of Gabriel, Saliba, White, Tomi, Ramsdale, Saka, ESR, Martinelli, Odegaard, and Nketiah will all be coming into their prime. I think there is a genuine case to be optimistic about the future of the club and you can see the direction from Arteta and Edu on the project. Obviously within that timeframe as well, we should also be looking to make a serious challenge for the Champions League as well.

Think all parties would like to walk away from the arrangement but I’m afraid it’s gonna run a bit. He’ll want to get paid the same (and is entitled to the contract he signed with us) but unfortunately his stock is in the toilet so Sevilla isn’t coughing up 40m in a fee plus wages.

This feels very much in loan with obligation to buy territory. Arsenal will be able to reset their accounts, know that he’s coming off the books next summer, and kick the can down the road a bit. I’d be thrilled if he was sold outright but continental teams are broke, right? Maybe he’d like to move to Newcastle? I hear it’s uh…great?
