Declan Rice (41)

THIS ^^^

Players steal a march on freekicks and throw ins all the time, it’s routine tbh

There’s no justification but it can lead to the result, for me he doesn’t engage in the way he did then we aren’t talking about this in the first place, they take their freekick which probably amounts to nothing.

The only thing he could have done different is wear a different shirt.

Maybe one of the middle Eastern owned clubs that fly out refs business class to Dubai for some bullshit ref camp

So is slowing the other team down on set pieces. Is one better than the other?

Are we now gonna book everyone who takes a few yards advantage on set pieces?

Quite clear if we follow the letter of the law every time the teams would all end up with 4v4 by the end.

That’s the problem.

Issue is he’s attempting to do that whilst on a yellow why?

Be street smart

Sure, it happens all the time and every time it does and it’s not pulled back, it’s an incorrect decision by the referee.

It should not be the job of the player to act in a way that ensures an incompetent referee doesn’t incorrectly punish said player.

Any criticism of Rice purely on the basis of it being a stupid action is fair enough but it shouldn’t be used to excuse that the overall decision is incorrect.

It shouldn’t be their job

But could also say it isn’t their job to engage in foolishness either especially whilst on a yellow

Ball was thrown at Rice and the ball was rolling before Rice did anything. Veltman saw a free chance to con the thicko ref and took it.

You could say that, yeah, I’m not disagreeing with anyone saying the action is silly because I don’t think Rice knew the free kick was taken from the incorrect spot, but I don’t think we should be placing responsibility on players to act in a certain way to avoid being the victim of incorrect officiating.

Oh I don’t think he’s an 8. For my money he’s a 6.

You make it sound like he was playing centre back lmao

Oh no, I’m just saying I understand if he’s not absolutely comfortable or world class as an 8, but he’s still had a bad start to the season imo.

Weak second yellow, but Rice was stupid. He cost us the game.

He didn’t cost us the game. He done nothing wrong in my view.

Silly foul and needless engagement after. It’s soft. However, he allowed the ref to make a choice.

All players give fouls away. The foul wasn’t worthy of a yellow card. Veltman deliberately kicked Rice. He made a conscious decision to do that. Rice was walking away (so no argument that he wasn’t retreating) and the gentle side tap of the ball as it was rolling past him can hardly be deemed to be kicking the ball away, and he was looking at the ref with his arms up as he was doing it. Whatever way you spin it, this was a shocking decision from the referee. Totally unjustified in my view.

The ref didn’t need a chance or choice to give a yellow.
He had way too many bad calls and non calls in this game.

Bottom line is Veltman is a fucking cheat aided and abetted by another fucking cheat in Chris Kavanagh. VAR would show that, but nobody wants to look at it. Fucked system.

The letter of the law was not followed and it is a convenient out spouted to give PGMOL cheats an excuse for their corruption.

  1. The free kick was awarded circa 8 yards back, with Rice retreating, so he is not delaying a restart.
  2. The ball was rolling, so a free kick cannot be taken.
  3. The ball rolls into Rice, he looks down when it knocks into him and nudges it away.
  4. Veldman kick is higher than the ball and he is not attempting to do anything besides kick Rice

If the “letter of the law” is being followed, then the ref blows his whistle for the free kick to be taken back in it’s original spot/the ball is rolling, so a retake…then there is a violent incident with the ball not in play and Veltman receives a red card…

The fact is that PGMOL is rotten, TV companies have a conflict of interest, so PGMOL defends itself and sufficient paid for pundits tow the line and make excuses for or openly support blatant incompetence/bias of match officials.
