David Raya (1)

I’ll give my opinion on this in May. Not looking to jinx the fucker

I’m also holding off my Raya take for when the season ends.

ffs…you can’t just hop on my bandwagon

He’s better than Lehmann :victory_hand:

My take is even wilder so it’ll have to wait till the summer.

It’s either a valid take now or it never will be. Jus sayin

Fuck it.
I think there’s a chance ge goes into the World Cup as Spain’s #1.
If he wins the quadruple and World Cup with Spain, he’s got a serious case to be above Casillas.

I heard someone on some podcast saying he should be their number 1.

Jesus fuck come off it, he needs about 5 more seasons at this level to be talked about in that breath.

2.5 top seasons at best so far. Spains number 1 sure but the rest is OTT.

As Don Perez once said “Casillas is the biggest fraud in the club’s history”. :saliba:

He also called Raul a fraud. So erm… keep that in mind…

Indeed, Perez is a visionary. He knows ball.

You think Raul was a fraud?

I don’t think they are frauds but they’re definitely a bit overrated. I get where Perez was coming from.
They both peaked early in their careers and that reputation carried them for the rest of their careers.

Raul cracked 20+ goals back in 2001 and dipped. R9 completely overshadowed him when he arrived.
Take into account Spain would kill to have a striker like him today. Hell, most teams and nations would kill for a striker like him in this dire striker pool today.

Casillas used to be a cat with his reflexes, that is when he locked in.
He was too relaxed for the majority of the games. It became a meme that Madrid used to concede the first chance their opponents got, usually because Casillas was zoned out.
I’ve seen that dude do kick-ups in a game, and Madrid wasn’t even winning.
It was no surprise when Mourinho dropped him.

Anyway, speaking of Iker’s reflexes. He came into my mind when thinking of Raya’s saves.
Casillas used to pull a lot of those saves where you genuinely didn’t understand how it was physically possible. Shouldn’t be a surprise considering he was Raya’s idol.
So if Raya can do that, is more consistent and is better with the ball at his feet, then if he wins a historic quadruple and World Cup with Spain, then he absolutely needs to be up there.

But yeah, the chances of Raya doing all that this season are miniscule.

Raya has been phenomenal. So phenomenal that you are disappointed when we concede a goal. You just expect him to make all kinds of saves.

But let’s not forget Mikel’s role in identifying Raya’s talent and bringing him here when most of us thought Rambo was doing the business.

Sure, Inaki too, but Mikel would have and the final say, and it was him that was defending that decision in the media.

In line for another Golden Glove. At some stage, he needs to be respected as the Prem’s best keeper.

Genuinely think his only real weakness is long-range strikes. Other than that, he’s super-solid in most other areas. Definitely our best keeper since Lehmann, no doubt about it.

Yet Donnaruma conceded more long-range goals.

I’m not sure where is this myth about Raya being weak from long shots comes from.

Is it rooted from that goal against Fulham?

That was 6 years ago.

Majority of these long shots I can remember Raya conceding have been bangers.
