David Raya (1)

Sounds like there are no top class keepers left anymore then.

this is a serious warmup… not just stupid leg stretching and slow mo ball catching

David Raya’s twin sister. No context and no comment

It’s the beard.

I haven’t noticed it before, now I can’t unsee it.

Bloke and his mate fix up a date with twins. One guy says, ā€œHow will we tell them apart when we meet them?ā€ ā€œEasyā€, his mate says ā€œyour one’s got a beard.ā€

Very odd performance for him last night.

Definitely be happy to replace him in the summer. Seems to not make decisive saves enough. Feel like pretty much any decent shot at him goes in most times.

Good on crosses, distribution and calm when receiving the ball. But not an exceptional shot stopper and it cost us over the last two games.

Watching Sommer and Donnarumma these two legs shows what decisive goalkeeping can do for a team

I agree.

In so many games, it felt like the opposition scored with their first decent shot, I like his distribution , play with ball at feet and his handling of crosses but far too often we have conceded important goals against the first decent attack.

Sommer, Donnarumma and even Cortois made a lot of game changing saves that I think Raya failed to do this season.

Has Raya not done this regularly this season? This sounds strange

I don’t agree with this, even last night the chances PSG scored from were ridiculously low xg chances

Raya has saved us many times over this season especially in the PL

Odd to want him gone

It’s unfair because he saved the penalty yesterday and has been one of our better and most consistent performers this season but if you were to rank the keepers from the semis, he comes last, even after Szczesny who came out retirement this season.

If you were to hear Arteta’s presser yesterday, there was a huge emphasis on Gigi and we already know goalkeeper is an area Arteta and co. are always trying to improve on.
The guy they identified last summer has gone on to have an outstanding season and he’s pulling off highlight reel saves every week it seems.
Think if we were to sign him, it wouldn’t take long before he displaces Raya.

As much as we have been criticised for putting too much emphasis on keepers, our two rivals have fantastic goalkeeper depth and it hasn’t stopped them looking to recruit there still.
Liverpool have Alisson and Kelleher, and even Jaros looked great when used. That didn’t stop them from signing Mamardashvili.
City have Ederson and Ortega, and are looking to sign Diogo Costa.

What chance vs PSG you expect him to do better with ?

Dembele off the post ?

Ruiz into the corner ?

Or the Hakimi corner one ?

Personally as good as the psg keeper was, I don’t think he saves any of those 3 either.

Raya one of the least of our worries imo.

Agree with him being one of the least of our worries @Aussiegooner but can absolutely understand why the club are chasing a new keeper too.

Just doesn’t really seem to be a decisive shot stopper enough.

Raya is the only reason Arsenal were even in this tie until the final phases of it. Our best player by a country mile over the two legs.

One way to look at it is would Raya start for any of the top clubs we consider our rivals this season in the EPL or UCL?

Not even close. He’s done a great job here, but I’m concerned at how easily opponents manage to score from just hitting the ball cleanly.

Raya is one of the best GK’s in the world, and the way we’re setup to play he is probably the best for us. When Arteta leaves maybe we can talk about replacing him.

I reckon he’d start at City atm, ederson was fucking dross this season, he’d start at Chelsea, Spurs, United, Newcastle, made way less errors than Emi also.

Wouldn’t start at Liverpool.

Spurs, United and Newcastle aren’t our title rivals though.

I’d say City, Liverpool, PSG, Barca, Madrid, Inter are the main guys I’d be looking at for comparison.

But I agree that he’s the least of our worries atm.

He’d start for City. Wouldn’t for Liverpool though.
As far as Europe is concerned, maybe Barca but Szczesny has surprisingly been pretty good.

There’s a common pattern here if you look at the top tier goalies in the game and their height is certainly a factor. Dudes like Alisson, Courtois, Maignan and Donnarumma certainly benefit from it.
